Alarm not functioning can I buy an OEM remote?

Hey, so I bought a used 99 Max SE from a friend. He had a Viper alarm installed but it was malfunctioning, so he disabled the alarm.

Now the lock / unlock function is not working properly either. I just want a remote door unlock, so can I buy an OEM remote from Ebay and program it to the car? (Saw instructions somewhere on the forums)

Here is a pic of the viper remote: http://imgur.com/WIP4w
thx

No, the OEM remote will not work in place of a Viper remote. You May have OEM security (which is useless really) and it may work for that, but not for the Viper system. Why not just have the alarm looked at ?

Ah I believe the brain is fried but the original installer isn't around anymore.

I just want a remote to lock and unlock doors. So that functionality is disabled when the viper unit is installed?
Basically use buy a key fob and program it: https://maxima.org/showthread.php?t=569898

No, there is no reason why it wouldn't work for just keyless entry. If that is all you desire then a OEM fob should be fine.
