Pro and cons on lowering springs

Thinking about lowering the car because I've buying a stillen lip kit and painting the car white, no rims yet just stock. I'm wondering what are the pros and cons? Which springs are the best for comfort?

Don't dump your car and you'll accomplish comfort. And don't just get springs, upgrade to performance shocks too. There's a cheap way to do it and there's a right way to do it, they don't go together so knowing your budget if you have one will determine what kind of ride you'll end up with.

Search the org because there are dozens of threads on suspension only

While what he is true in theory, in practice it's unfortunately untrue. There are ZERO performance struts available for the 3rd gen.

Pros of lowering your 3rd gen? It looks good.

Cons? There are no strut upgrades available, harsh ride, few spring choices even. You're basically stuck lowering on stock replacement KYB struts.

Do you think the max would look good without the drop and stillen kit install?

This. There is even fewer options for the 2nd gen it would seem. I went with KYB GR2's all around and I'm buying a set of 88-91 Honda Civic coilover sleeves to mount on. Should give me a decent ride with adjustable height.

I went with Eibach springs on Tokico Blues back when I had a 3rd gen.
Great looks, much better handling, and still a good ride quality.

Did you have quicker tire wear? And what size are those rims?

I am currently on tokico with eibachs on 3rd gen and love the ride considering I live in NY where roads are crap.

I believe the height is 1.2 but could be wrong. Plan on going lower and have full stillen kit. Depends on where you live. Just make sure you take care of all suspension needs while at it (i.e. Control arms, axles, etc.).

The picture I posted are 17x7 et35 w/ 225/45/17 tires.
The car is about 1.5'' lower than stock.

I'm on tokico blues with Sprint springs. Not bad for a 2" drop.

I live in Orlando fl. Nice roads over here. The main reason I want to drop it is because of the huge gap between tire n side fenders. Especially with a kit on it will look even worst.

Im on Eibach springs and Tokicos shocks/struts, and i am happy with the resulting ride. I also put the poly bushings all around on the front lower control arms and rear links, as well as poly bushing aftermarket sway bars. While it does ride excellent on the highway and on turns/cloverleafs and no nose dive when braking, it feels like a work truck driving around suburban neighborhood streets going over potholes, manhole covers, asphalt/tar patches, driveway aprons, etc - banging, clunking, creaking. I think a good balance would have been to leave rubber bushings in the control arms and keep the eibach/tokico/sway bars on

So I shouldn't leave the factory rubber on the control arms? But change the others.

I would check to see if the suspension from a 4th or 5th gen SE would fit on your third gen, maybe springs from a 350z if you want it a bit lower, but see what would fit directly from nissan, especially taking the rubber peices off of a Nissan would be best.

the 350z springs won't work. you need springs from a JDM gloria. that'll be the right height.

the 6th gen struts should match up correctly for the front and altima struts should work perfectly for the rear.

don't use rubber...look for delrin bushings from stillen. it's better than polyurethane.

(please dont take this post seriously)

Replace all bushings and ball joints if your lowering. I replaced front lower control arms that came with new bushings/ball joints, replaced front/rear strut mounts, poly sway bar bushings front/rear, eibach camber kit up front, B&G lowering springs(1 inch drop), rear parallel links w/bushings and I'm riding on 16x8" rims w/225/50/16 Toyo Proxes. I have the sonar struts with a front strut tower brace, front/rear end alignment and she rides/feels great. Rim/tire choice is key when changing the factory suspension geometry.

I was riding on Arospeed with a 1.75" on original shocks: BIG MISTAKE! Never did that again. Now its currently sitting on Intrax with KYB shocks. Rides and handles very nicely. But i do agree with everyone else on here; if you are buying lowering springs make sure you get new struts/shocks and other necessary suspension parts. Do it right the first time and never take the cheap way out on this.

Never go lower than 1.75" on struts when pretaining to our cars, yes poly bushed LCA might be slight civilian overkill on everyday streets in everyway USA.....I wish I knew what BMW knows, they make it look so sexy and ride/feel so pleasant.....

Paint job, lip kit, 17" rims, drop with struts n bushings. And I'll call it the day hopefully lol. Now time to shop around for some springs. Any suggestion where to find a good priced springs?

I work at BMW and i even ask myself the same question everytime about their suspension. Honestly its all in their DSC system. Everytime i do a test drive im always hitting close to 100mph and you dont feel any type of body roll. These cars can handle. This is why i love my BMW.

Kind of off topic, but anyone done a mild lift kit, sort of a "Rally car" look?

You have choice of either Intrax or B&G's. Intrax gives 1.7" drop all around I believe whereas B&G's are 1.6".

Being in NY, I plan on going with Intrax to get a nice drop all around versus eibachs and still handle crappy NYC roads. Just get best possible struts first time around to save headaches later.

Intrax can be found online and B&G's are usually on ebay.

One more site popped up as well but I didn't check there.

My girl now knows what I want for xmas.

Swap out for 4th gen poly ctrl arm bushings. You have to modify the larger one.
