Upper oil pan cover broken

Taking off the rear timing chain cover I broke the upper oil pan cover:

I know the proper fix would be to replace the upper oil pan cover however I would like to know if I could JB weld the "part in the pink box" to the "area of the yellow box".

Thanks

you can try jb weld, but if you ar unsuccessfull and end up with an oil leak, you'd have to do the job over again. might as well replace the broken part.

if interested, i'll sell you the upper oil pan for the vq30de for $55 shipped. pm me if interested.

Yeah but if it leaks oil I wouldn't need to remove either timing chain cover front or rear right? Just the lower and upper oil pan covers right?

The upper oil pan removal is pretty involved. Here is a write up on it

thats really not the point. It understandable that the second time around is always easier and faster than the initial time. The point is, if the "fix" does not work, you will have to do the job over again and spend a good two hours redoing what could have been done right the first time around.

fact is, you rushed the job and that why you cracked the oil pan. It happens. Just last week I rushed an engine swap on an RL and cracked the differential case, had to replace the whole darn differential for my stupid mistake of not taking my time with it.

My point is not to slam you for breaking stuff, it happens, but rather to say that do you really want to do the job over again if the jb weld is unsuccessful.

My experience with jb weld is positive and negative. IT works well for intake manifold and other things as such. At one time, I jb welded a housing on the transmission for a very light crack (much smaller than what you're working with). The area of the transmission that I jb welded had no pressure, but after a few weeks, oil started to seep through that repair area. It was minor but the transmission oil level did drop about a quart after about 4-5 months driving. I never ended up fixing the leak but wished I would have done the repair right the first time. It was my personal car so I just kept my eye on the oil level since the replacement of the transmission housing is a very involved job.

good luck.
