Can A Heater Core Water Leak Be Repaired

To my knowledge, my heater core is broken. The prior owner bypassed the heater core pipe and rerouted the coolant to the engine. Rather than paying $180.00 for a new core, is it possible to flush the core and fix the area that is leaking by brazing or applying steel epoxy.

enh...yes and no.

here's the thing...to get to the heater core it involves a butt load of labor. as in a lot of stuff needs to go out before you can actually get to the heater core. so now after spending hours and hours on pulling stuff out and stuffing it back in do you want to just patch the core in the hopes that it'll hold and not blow up all over your ECU? also being the car is so old that if you patch one hole it doesn't mean that it's not going to develop another hole sometime in the near future.
