You, however are '97 GLE which is a bit more sluggish than a '95 GXE. If he knows how to shift good he'd probubly win by a little. If he doesn't shift better than OK you will have a good chance.

Go 4 it and tell us who wins.

It's not so much the fact that it is a GLE that maeks it slow, I think he was implying that since it is a 97 it is slower than the 95's....this is because of more emmission restrictions and added weight

Ok, an auto Max, which the GLE is, WILL lose to a 97 V6 5spd Camaro. My friend had a 95 V6 5spd, I have a 97 5spd Max, and I didn't beat him by that much. He had a few mods and was running as fast as that 3.8L 97 is. And as we all know, the autotragics in Maximas suck and are a lot slower than the 5spds. You will lose unless he has NO idea how to drive.

ummm don't be so harsh there. I have had both an auto and 5spd Maxima, and the autos aren't dogs on the road by any means. In my old 96 SE auto I raced a 97 RS Camaro Auto and beat him off the line and to 120mph (or around to where his limiter kicked in, 115-120 don't remember where). Anyway, from 0mph-120mph I pulled about 3-4 cars on him and then his speed limiter cut him off so he was toast 120 plus. Now this race would have been a lot closer if he was a 5spd, and I might have lost, but I think I could have hung fairly well.

And yes, 5spd Maximas are faster than auto Maximas, but that is only with good drivers. And I don't think I would say the autos are a lot slower than the 5spd Maximas, of course I guess it depends on your meaning of a lot??

Hehe, by a lot I meant min. 1 sec in the 1/4 when still stock. And you said it was an auto RS right? The 5spd Camaros are also considerably faster than the autos. But good kill either way. Do you know what year the Camaro was? And if it had any mods? Also what mods do you have? Just curious

When I raced that guy my 96 auto only had an intake (spare tire, jack and tools were removed though and at the 1/8 mile my best time stock was a 10.087 @ 72mph), and it was a STOCK 1997 RS Camaro auto. Like I said before, if it was a 5spd RS then it would have been a lot harder for me especially off the line, but not now since I have a 98 5spd I still think an auto Maxima in good working order will give a 5spd Camaro V6 a good run, might not win, but it is worth a try. I liked my old car, but I wish I had waited to get a 5spd in it too..

I think there are a few 5spd owners that should be afraid of an auto maxima But, if they can drive, then.... you know the rest

We're discussing an AUTO Max vs. a 5spd Camaro. And you won't beat an auto by A LOT if you're both stcok. But you will probably beat him by a little.

As tested in Car & Driver 2/99, pg 60
1999 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe, 3800 V-6, 5-speed manual, 3.23 axle ratio, Sport Apperance Package
-Curb weight: 3368 lb.
-0-60: 7.7 sec
-0-100: 24.0 sec
-5-60: 8.2 sec
-1/4 mile: 16.1 @ 87 mph
-Top Speed (electronically limited): 116 mph
-Braking 70-0: 182 feet
-Lateral Acceleration: 0.80 g
-Emergency Lane-Change Manuever: 64.3 mph
-C/D observed fuel economy (500 mile trip): 20 mpg

Not sure what an Autotragic Max does, but it's not far off from the Camaro. And lets not get started about quality of cars or anything, this thread is about a race between the two, that's it. If anyone has the stats AS TESTED in a magazine, post em so that we can all see and compare for ourselves.

Also, here's the stats for a 95 auto Camaro V-6:

As tested in Motor Trend 5/95, (Reprint ID # 7098)
1995 Chevrolet Base Camaro Coupe, 4 speed Automatic, 3.06 Final Drive Ratio/Open Differential, 3800 V6
-0-60: 7.4 sec
-1/4 mile: 15.7 sec @ 88.3 mph
-Braking 60-0: 143 feet
-Lateral Acceleration: 0.81 g
-Slalom Speed: 66.0 mph
-EPA estimated gas mileage: 17 city/ 27 highway

In case anyone cares
