Restoring wheels, how can I ?
Hey guys, Im very new to detailing very very new. I probably waxed/polished my car once by hand but its something I want to learn how to do ......I picked up these wheels and I feel like I can bring them back to life
....there is curb rash but that's a different approach. There is rust on the wheels and around the studs and Im trying to 1. figure out the right chemical to get it off and 2. get something that wont ***** up my lungs or ruin the wheels finish.
...also the clear coat is stripping, I dont know if clear coating wheels is a different approach compared to when you do the on cars. But Id like to get rid of the veiny look
...the rims are a machined face with a polised lip I guess
yes I did search but some links are dead, or they are just basic polishing stuff
what would you guys do step by step ? If I can get the rust gone then Im happy ( hope the wheels arent ruined because of it )

center caps...they have this like oxidized look to them

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps7524ed89.jpg you can see the rust in the studs and such here
any tips help !

hate to say it...you can't.
on a machine faced wheel you need a lathe or something to turn the wheel while a carbide or insert tool cut into the face of the wheel. the spinning and cutting actual creates that machined look.
i make the assumption you lack the proper equipment to make that work.
as an alternative you can always polish the face of the wheel but that will change how they look.
you must strip off all the clear coat and then follow the steps needed to polish aluminum and get it re clear coated.
the rust will go away as it's from the steel parts (lug nuts) rubbing off on to the rim. aluminum will not "rust"...but it will oxidize and create a white chalky residue.
