When you have defrost on the car utilizes the compressor system, even if set to heat. Therefore, when the compressor kicks on, it draws on the engine to turn it. If the belt is badly worn and/or loose, it will squeal. Any belt will squeal if loose or worn.

So, you need to inspect the belts to evaluate each ones condition. If the compressor belt looks good, then it likely just needs to be tightened. If it looks cracked and worn, replace it.

The heater blower motor could be making noise. But the blower motor is inside the car. Are you sure the sound is coming from under the hood? If the noise id from under the hood, maybe the belt is loose and needs tightening or replacement.

It could be possible that the belt needs tightened up a bit. If it has mileage on it, it could be getting worn and slipping some.

I had a new belt put on when I did an alternator change a couple months ago, and after several days I was getting a bit of a squeal when I started up the car. I just retightened it and it's been good ever since.

This writeup shows you where the various belt tensioners are to tighten/loosen:

If your belts are in good shape, and the proper tension, try spraying some belt conditioner on them to get rid of any remaining squeal. I had crazy squealing with my UDP install but this did the trick.
