Fog Lights on '90 SE

I have a '90 SE. On the dash is a button which the owner's manual says is the fog light switch. Nothing happens when I flip the switch.

The owner's manual doesn't say anything else about fog lights. The page that lists all the bulb types doesn't list a fog light bulb. The page with the diagram which points out all the lights doesn't mention a fog light. Fog lights are not listed in the index.

Looking at the front exterior, there's the headlights, then the turn signals below them. Below the turn signals on the bumper, the spoiler has openings that look like they might have been for fog lamps. But it doesn't look like any lamps were ever installed there.

Assuming fog lamps were an option on the '90 SE, I don't understand why they would bother to install the switch if the fog lamps option was not selected. Instead I'd expect to see a blank little panel on the dash where the switch would go. Did Nissan normally install the fog lamp dash switches even when fog lamps themselves were not installed?

What are my options for installing or reinstalling stock fog lamps? If it's possible they were never installed, how do I determine whether they were ever installed?

Many Thanks,

Greg

fog lights were standard on all SE's.

GXE's had an option for a smaller set of foglights (maybe 60% the height of the SE units).

Thanks, that's very interesting.

So it sounds like the lamps must have been removed. So if I just get an original pair from a wrecking yard, I should be able to install them and have working fog lights?

assuming your switch/wiring/relay/fuse are all intact, then yes, plug them in and you're done. On a GXE *sometimes* the wiring is all there, and all you have to do is add a relay and the lights..... but sometimes only the wiring in front of the firewall is present.
