Distributor Rebuilt ?'s
Distributor Rebuilt ?'s
So the sensor/pick-up in the distributor went out the other day, which cause stumbling, excessive gas consumption, hard starting and no power. I noticed these don't go cheap for rebuilt ones. So I got one from the wrecking yards for 35.00 bucks and slapped it in and problem solved. My question is...
"Has anyone rebuilt theirs or just replaced the sensor inside?"
The original dist lasted 160K plus...

I'm not even sure you "can" rebuild them anymore. I can't recall if they even ever sold that peice seperate, it's all blending now days. I may be thinking about alternator and starter rebuild kits, used to be able to get them, not anymore!
In any case, to answer your question, I think you're better off operation wise and financially by going used and just replacing the whole thing. As you've done.

you can rebuild them, i almost did on my Supra. but unless its a rare vehicle or something its not worth rebuilding the distributor, just get a new or already rebuilt one. thats why garages switched from rebuilding alternators/starters/distributors to just buying them already rebult or new, less of a headache

They replace them all the time.
