Whats up im in a 01 AE WITH A 02 SE muffler, muffler keeps hitting the rear beam it's driving me NUTS every big dip or bump. Thump thump!! I've tryed using wire and keeping it tight at the muffler, then right after the muffler near the rear passenger tire, still a thump... Ball joints are new, both axles, shocks and springs, rotors, pads , tires are great

 

My Megan catback was doing the same thing. You can restrict the movement by taking a hose clamp and tightening it around the rubber muffler hanger that's closest to the rear wheel. No more noise for me after almost a year.

 

Are all your exhaust hangars okay?

 

I got the same thing I just put a new muffler on last week now it keeps bangin around but it was fine when the stock muffler was on wtf. Did I miss something

 

You can also take a piece of rubber hose and put it on the lip of the hump above the rear beam

 

Well since I bought the car they haven't been changed , it's ally started once I dropped the front

 

Sounds like you need new exhaust hangars.

 

Cjuandra : will try 2moro, think that should help, I will use some of the extra hose left from my 73 nova, don't see why it wouldn't work

 

I took my custom 3" to a local muffler shop...$20 later they installed new rubber bushings and created another hanger to help restrict movement. Perfect now

 

Getting new exhaust hangers first, hope this works

 

Here is the trick i used for my cattman exhaust.first i Make sure everything was centered. Then take the crossbeam that your exhaust sits on that's in the middle the car on the bottom it's bolted to the body of the car woth 2 14 mm or 12 mm nuts. Take it off the car and marked the centerline of your exhaust pipe on it then get a piece of reinforcing strap which you can get at Pep Boys it comes in a role in the exhaust section then drill two holes on either side of where the exhaust centerline is Run the strap over Top of the exhaust pipe and then used to bolts and nuts to secure it to the crossbeam your exhaustible no longer move essentially what you are making is a driveshaft loop for the exhaust.

 

You just need a good set of performance exhaust hangers. They are hard rubber and will not sag and flop around like the OEM ones. I had performance exhaust hangers installed with my 3" Cattman exhaust and NEVER had any problems.

 

I think it's exhaust hangers too. Replaced all my OEM ones with Walker replacements and that sucker is mounted and not going anywhere lol. Used to sag a lite bit but now looks perfect against the bumper. I would go that route since it's easy and cheap enough

 

It can still bang with brand new hangers. YOu need to stick a piece of wood where it is hitting and re-weld it and it will stay in place
