I got a 1992 Nissan Maxima GXE. Last week i turn the car on and moved it to load the car, but after I turned it on and put it into gear the just turn off. I tried it again but after letting the car stay on in parking for 2 minutes then put it into reverse and car shut off again. I asked a mechanic he said it might be the solenoid, he said to unplug it and put it into gear and if it shuts down it not the solenoid. But dont know where the solenoid is. Cant find any pictures. Need help. Anyone run into this problem. Thanks in advance.

 

idle speed is set @ what RPM? A/t or M/t?

 

I would assume you have an auto because you mentioned a solenoid.
Perform the self diagnostics for A/T in Pg 45 of the manual.
