Blown Koni Strut

So I took my suspension of my 97 this weekend, and found that the front passenger side strut was totally shot. I was kinda surprised because I'd never noticed it driving.

Anyone delt with the Koni warrenty? I ordered them through shox.com.

Re: Blown Koni Strut

I think Koni's come with a lifetime warranty, to the original purchaser. Go to Koni's website and I'm sure you'll find a phone #, otherwise go through shox.com

#1 - Oil was leaking out the top of it
#2 - Strut would compress with NO weight being put onto the strut's shaft.

Well, its strange. Just the passenger side one was blown. The other three were perfect.

About the warrenty not applying to inserts...I don't see how that would make sense...The insert was not modified at all, just the factory housing. The insert is in the same condition (except blown) as when I bought it.

Where did you get that idea? I haven't heard of anyone else to have a blown Koni shock except for ejj5875.

My Koni's are fine.....

If anything Koni's have been more reliable then Tokico's. When the Koni's were the hot thing about a year and a half ago a lot of people bought them and this is the first complaint I've seen. Thats got to say something. I'm still very pleased with my Koni's. Come the end of February I plan on going wiht Ground Controls, at that time I'll check my struts out. If there are any problems I'll be sure to post.

I'm not the least bit upset with the Koni's. I just have to think that it was a defective strut to die that quickly. Hopefully I'll get a new one without a lot of hassel, and be good as new.

I think you should be covered. Its not like the insert was modified as was the strut housing.

Btw this the first I've heard of a Koni failing on a Max.
(I've got Koni Yellows on my 4 corners.)

Just heard back from Koni's warrenty department....here's the procedure incase anyone is interested.

Koni Warranty covers factory defects to the original retail purchaser of the dampers. It does not cover worn bushings, shocks installed on a modified chassis or springs sold with kits. Warranty is not transferable. All replacements are new dampers from stock unless notified as such.

1. Forward below documents to receive a Return Goods Authorization (RGA) number:

· Copy of proof of purchase (dated after May, 1980)
· Current vehicle registration
· Model make and year of vehicle
· Part(s) to be replaced and problem with each (parts are replaced in units)
· Shipping address and daytime phone number
· Credit card number to ensure return of defective units (charges will occur only when parts have been returned in 90 days or if returns are found to be not defective).

2. The Mustang SVO is the only vehicle with lifetime warranty to the original owner, proof of vehicle purchase is required in addition to current vehicle registration.

3. Please fax your documents to:

Darlene Peddicord Fax: (859) 334-3340

4. Please call Darlene Peddicord, Warranty/Customer Service Representative if you have any other questions or concerns. The telephone number is (859) 586-4100 extension 13.
Now I have to go find my original paperwork for them...

If I'm reading correctly, it sounds to me like they will send you a new part and you can send the old one back later. That's the way it should be...

No problems here either, this is the first time I hear a blown Koni shock. I am sure Mr. Benson at Koni will replace it, hes a nice person to deal with.

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!

I contacted Koni and spoke to Gordon Benson, I told him that for the first time I read that one of their struts blew out on someone, so he replied that mechanical things fail which is a good excuse and I told him well they come with lifetime warranty correct? He said yes that is the reason why they come with lifetime warranty and that the warranty will cover it. So call Koni and speak with Gordon Benson (859) 586-4100 , that is the number.
