my exhaust rusted and fell off at the y pipe. so I've been watching videos on youtube looking for good sounding exhausts, I have a 96 se. I'm not a fan of the higher pitched "honda" sound, I would like to get something close to the 350z sound I love their sound. Was also thinking about replacing headers and y pipe with ebay ones because the cats may be partially clogged as I blew the O2 sensor out of the rear cat.

 

Sound is very subjective. What sounds good to one person sounds like crap to another. Also, listening to exhaust clips through your computer speakers can be an exercise in futility.

Its tough to make the VQ30 sound good. Best bet is to go with the SRS Ebay special which actually sound really good and then get whatever header/Y option you want

 

Mandrel bend 2.25 with a vibrant muffler ;-) I love mine ;-)

I also drive a 96, and I have one of those cheap Ebay ones on my car, doesn't sound like a fart can civic,I think it sounds pretty mean actually. I have a set of headers and y pipe sitting around that I haven't had time for yet, but soon and I will let you know how that sounds. Do you have a cold air intake? Or planning on it? That will give you an even meaner sound in the higher RPMs :-)

The best combo I've heard (IMO) is the Stillen equal length Y-pipe + Greddy Sp2 Cat back.

 

because the Stillen equal lengths are easy to come by and all.......Greddy is a great catback but the muffler is massive so it should sound good

 

do they still sell Greddy SP2s? back when I first joined I wanted one so bad. I've never come to a point to get one until about now when it's becoming more of a project car rather than a daily.

 

There's not that many great options for the 4th gen IMO but I personally liked the GReddy SP2. I never had it on my car, however, I've only listened to sound clips of it on YouTube and such.

I also found a video with a short ram intake, 2.5 in straight pipe and a 5zigen muffler that sounds good, the uploaders name is 96pandamax maybe someone on here? he also loaded another video with these mods:custom intake, extrude honed exhaust manifold, custom equal length y pipe,warpspeed test pipe,3" mandrel bent exhaust obx resonator and obx forza hr muffler.
