MAF Sensor / 2000 SE - problems, action, results

ust wanted to post some info from a really positive experience that resulted from replacing the MAF sensor in my 2000 Maxima SE, 3.0, 5 speed manual.

ORIGINAL PROBLEMS: Purchased car about 1 year ago. Felt significant loss of power whenever it got to 3200-3300 rpm's.....almost like a cylinder dropping off or something. Then, car would not stay idling at stop signs/lights, etc. even when not in gear...would always die.

ACTION: Purchased new MAF sensor (OEM) from Courtesy Parts (Nissan) in Texas for $87. Talked to "Butch" @ 1-800-527-1909 who was a great guy. Easy replacement...very straight forward. Did not have car reprogrammed at dealer. (btw...MAF sensor had a green dot on it....for those that are curious).
Butch told me that the MAF sensor and the Coil Packs are the most common problems they see with the 2000 Maxima's.

RESULTS: Car idles smoothly and runs like a jack rabbit now. Has never stalled yet (3 months now) and no power loss at any rpm now. MPG went up from 23 to a steady 25 and even hit 29 mpg on a recent highway trip while traveling at speeds of 65-75 mph and using the A/C the whole time. Seems like a different car now.

Just FYI. Hope this helps out some other folks.

Depending on what ecm it has and also since it might have been change once before it probably had the ecm updated to the new part # 22680-2y001 maf sensor that replaced the old 22680-ad201 per the TSB so you should be good.

On a side note do you know which part# you got? 22680-2y001 or 22680-ad201.

I'm guessing by the price it's the 22680-2y001

After reading your reply, I called Courtesy Nissan this morning and they informed me that I have the 2y001.

Also, last fall I had a new ECM installed due to a clusterf**k situation with using a Walmart non-chipped key (llllooooonnnnggggg story) that had fried my ECM (according to the local dealer).

Thanks for your inquiry about this situation.

Thanks for the input a33nsimo. I appreciate it.

Also had to replace a #2 cylinder ignition coil pack recently and car is running good.

Kind of surprised that no one else out there had any of these kinds of problems or that this info wasn't useful to others? oh well..........

Trust me, MAF sensors and ignition coils have been going bad in maxima/i30/i35 for years. This is nothing new in the Max world. I think I still have like 3 bad/good MAF sensors somewhere in my garage.
