Fuel pump and MAF on the way out?

Two questions...

1) While I was changing the fuel filter, petrol continued to flow, or perhaps, gushed out a little, even when the filter was vertical. I had to keep my finger on the top end (labelled OUT) of the filter to stop the flow when i was trying to disconnect the bottom fuel line.

This happened even as I was connecting the fuel line to the new fuel filter.

Was that supposed to happen even after I removed the fuel pump fuse and cranked the engine a few times to depressurize the fuel line? Could this mean the fuel pump is faulty, because the fuel continued to flow even when the engine is not running?

2) I had two ignition coils replaced at AUD $195 each, and AUD $140 labour a few days ago. That was expensive Could have replaced it myself but I had to get it done at the shop as I was 30km away from home at the time and driving back via the freeway at 100km/h while my engine shudders and stalling randomly is dangerous.

Yesterday, as I was driving at 50km/h, the RPM was stuck at 1200 and it didn't move up even as I tried to accelerate. This occurred a few times and each time, it lasted for about 5 seconds or so, but the engine didn't shudder. Also, prior to that, the engine stalled after it was left idle for about 5 minutes.

There is no problem starting up the engine at any time though.

Could this mean the MAF is faulty as well, as I have already tried cleaning it with CRC MAF sensor cleaner?

1) It should have eventually stopped gushing out, but a good bit of fuel has to come out before all the pressure is out. I wouldn't think the fuel pump would be bad, because it would show sign while driving, or hard to start.

2) Yeah, that sounds like the MAF. And this is caused be the solder spots inside the MAF becoming cold. You can solder jump wires inside the MAF to make it work again, or you can buy a certified used oem one.

1) don't worry about it. If the fuel system or even the tank had some pressure stored, that will happen.

2) Check the throttle linkage at the throttle body, make sure it's not catching on anything.

Thanks Aflion and njmaxseltd.

Good to know that the fuel pump is not faulty. Checked the throttle linkage and it is free from anything that could get in the way.

The weird thing is that the MAF did not throw any CEL codes. I got quoted AUD150 for a reconditioned genuine MAF. That should be better than buying a cheap on from ebay?

Anything is better than buying a cheap one off of ebay. Haha. Also, check around in the f/s thread. Many people part out Maximas there, and could sell you one for cheaper than the other place you mentioned. I think Maxima_Joe is one, and MaxFever1987 is the other. Dont hold me to having their names 100% correct, but i think they are.
