Difficult start. Need mechanic gurus! Vid link inside
Been a while since I've posted anything...good to be back. I need some help identifying what the issue may be when I'm starting the car.
Not sure if it's a starter issue or something else, but the starter cranks and it seems like the engine has trouble "catching on". Not sure how to describe it. It happens randomly...the engine could be warm or cold. But it's been happening more frequently to the point that it happens all the time now.
I have a '99 SE with 192,xxx miles on the odometer. The tune up has been done approx. 30k miles ago, with the change of plugs and such. Oil has been changed every 5k miles with synthetic oil...so, I don't think this is the issue. Once the car starts I have no other issues while driving. It does not stall, it doesn't sputter, there are no changes in the RPM's. It's just the start. I do have a check engine light on that's been on for a while with a code of "evap canister" that comes and goes. No other codes have been shown.

Please share your insights as what it may be. Thank you all in advance.

100% on point, change it now. Once it starts happening all the time that means it's about to go out real soon and WILL leave you stranded. Also, if you wait too long and it dies on you, it can seize up and then you won't have the option of rebuilding.
Good luck!
Good luck!
I had to resurrect this thread because my problem still persists.
I changed my starter with a new one from Advance auto parts....pretty straight forward install. The first few starts of the car were successful as well as the initial test drive.
Well, after about 2 hours, I decided to go to a store and while leaving the store, the car had trouble starting again. So much so that it took me a few tries to start it....and it barely started. I thought I was going to have to tow it. Seems like the starter did NOT fix my starting issue.
Like I said in my origial post, it seems like the engine is "suffocating" or lacking something. Once the car starts I have no other issues...it runs perfectly. I also changed my air filter, oil + filter, coolant, and radiator while I "was in there" working on the starter. I say this because I don't think the car needs a tune-up. Also, everything is put back together correctly because I was able to start the car the first few times when I test drove it and I'm able to drive it once it does start.
Please shed any ideas you might have and I will try to see if any of those ideas may remedy the problem.
Thank you all in advance.

You will be ok. You have so tuning problems going on. Replace the distributer cap & rotor, wires & plugs. Pull one of your plugs out, I am willing to bet the electrodes are burned down making the gap very wide. The contacts on the underside of your distributer cap most likely chalked and wore out. Needs a good tune up can tell by the way its starting.
be sure to change the wires too even if the outside appearance looks good. they only run 35 to 40 bucks. They are not good. you cant see it with your eye but it takes longer for the spark to travel within bad wires so the engine don't get spark on time. Wires can also ARCH on each other, when this happens ...Lets say Cyl # 6 is ready to fire and one its way..and half way down the path it Archs on Cyl # 4. Well 4 don't need a spark but its getting it from 6 like it or not. So # 4's plug fires BANG.. Since 4 is not ready for a spark and the piston is heading upward the let over fuel mixture ignites creating power when its not time too, thus making the engine fight its self. The starter has more trouble when the engine is trying to run backwards. lol

maybe you should check the gap on the points while your at it!!!

First, check for the codes,If any. The next thing is to check the CKPOS sensor and fuel pump. It sounds like the fuel is not getting thru, check the next thing plugs, coils, any type of fuel cleaning done tune-up fuel filter ect.
