2001 w/o tcs- replace w/ecu w/tcs?

Hi,
Sorry if this has been covered but I looked for about an hour and didn't find an answer. I just bought a 2001 maxima for my son for $1,200 with the ECU fried. They had replaced the IACV and I think the TPS but never got around to taking it to the dealer to get the ECU as they wanted to get a new one and not mess with used. I have found an ECU out of another 2001 but it has TCS and mine does not. Would that just be a feature that doesn't get used or is it totally different/incompatible?
Thanks in advance for any help or information.

Don't know the answer to your question, but do you still have the old bad ECU? If so take a look inside, if the damage isn't too bad you can simply replace the STA509A mosfet with a new one, it'll only cost you maybe $12 for the part on eBay. The advantage here is not just lower cost for the ECU but also you won't need to fork over $100 to a dealer to reprogram your ECU for your keys.

Thanks Pilm, I had read about that and wish I could, it would be right up my alley. But the people I bought it from never got it back from their mechanic and I guess he moved away so no way to get it back.

That's a shame cause it's an easy repair to replace a damaged chip.

I checked this website http://nissan4u.com/parts/maxima/us_...ontrol_module/

Item 17 is the ECM. They don't list the ECM with TCS as an alternate to the ECM w/o TCS, so I'd be leery of doing it without knowing more. You might call a dealer and ask, though my guess is they'll say no simply because the part number is different, but if you are really really lucky maybe you'll get someone who knows for sure.

I inquired with a Nissan Tech about your question on another forum and here was my question and his answer:

Question: Anyone know whether you could put an ECM with TCS into a car without TCS? Specifically, can you put a 237105Y010 ECM for a 237105Y000? If the Y010 simply adds TCS functionality to the Y000 design, then it seems possible, but I don't know whether they might have tweaked the pinout or something else, and it's not easy to find any specific info on the differences.

Answer: I checked the diagrams and as far as I can see the factory didn't change the pin numbers. If you use an ECM with TCS on your Maxima without TCS, the ECM will be expecting the signal from the TCS system, and if it's not getting the signals, then it will trigger the engine light ON.
