Replacing Front End Links - Question

I'm going to be replacing the front end links on my car and in the service manual, the first step is to remove the steering linkage. Anyone know if this is a required step? I don't see any reason why this would need to be done as it doesn't appear to be in the way or anything. Thoughts?

I didn't have to do that when I installed my RL front endlinks. Just removed the bolts holding on the existing endlink and installed the new one and torqued to spec.

Cool, thanks! New ones are coming in the mail tomorrow. Hopefully will be getting rid of the annoying noise...

Ghozt is spot on. The only thing I did, because my urethane bushings were squeaking, I bought energy suspension bushing grease. It was worth it. Although some do not run into any noise issues with the bushings I wasn't so lucky.
