Trying to fix my axel and cat issues

I recently did an oil change and noticed both cv boots on Both sides are torn. They are throwing grease everywhere. I bought some generic grease to keep them lubricated until I can replace it.

My question is, what are good replacement axles? I see raxles are done and oem is a little pricy. I searched and see many many mixed reviews on napa, advanced auto, and oreileys. Also it seems to differ from store to store on whether to buy new or reman. Any input from guys that have had some aftermarket axles installed for awhile would be greatly appreciated. Or if some broke on you then let me know that as well.

Secondly my exhaust smells dirty. It has a 'Nox' smell to it. I believe it's the cats. I have an SES light for the rear O2 sensor. The light will only come on if I highway cruise for about 100 miles. I can drive around for months in the city and it never triggers the light until extended drives occur. But something tells me the cat is bad causing the O2 to think its faulty and not reading correctly. Is this correct? If so I was going to buy a ypipe to eliminate the pre cats(fed spec). Then I saw a WS ypipe and hi flow cat for ~325. Good Idea to just replace the main as well?

Any input is grealy appreciated. Thanks

On the axles, don't buy reman. I've had good success with new axles from napa. I once tried reman from napa and they suck. If napa sucks, then you can bet reman from the others are worse.

Sounds like a bad cat. The ws deal sounds good.

Best bet it to get your oem axles rebuilt or at least do a boot kit (only if they are not making any noise) which you can get from Nissan.

I would rebuild my axels but this is my only car and I can only have it down for an afternoon to do an install.

Also I should have included this in the car questions but from what I've read the high flow car won't really make a noise difference. Is this correct? I just don't want my car getting louder than what the warpspeed y pipe is going to do.

you go aftermarket and you might be in the hell I was in 2 weeks ago...

They had the vibration damper but the car vibrated. Went through 3 PAIRS (so 6 total) before I just said blah and went hunting for oem

IMO, rebuilding axles and replacing boots is just too much of a pain in the ***. Go buy new axles. Do not buy reman. Like I said, I have had good luck with new napa.

If cost is an issue then rebuild - or best of all go to a you pull it junkyard. For me, yanking and replacing is worth the extra cost.

If the cat is louder, it won't be much. As long as you keep stock back from the cat to the muffler you will be fine.

Thank you for the input. Napa doesn't have the driver side in my area. The places that have both sides, that are new, is car quest, advanced auto and oreileys. They want around 140 for both sides. I called the dealer and they wanted almost 1400$ for them

Forgot to ask. Since I'm taking the the whole axel out, will I need more tranny fluid? What about seals or bushings? (5 speed)

Yes, you will need fluid. I would inspect the axle seals. They are probably fine if not leaking.
