Hey guys, Just purchased a 03 GLE, Looks to be in mint condition with 83k. After a few days of driving it's become obvious the suspension is shot. The ride in town is not harsh but anything above 60 the car starts to float and wallow all over the place. So I have searched the forum and most will recommend KYB or Tokico. Tokico blues are almost impossible to find. I'm hearing they lost their US distributor but are looking to be back in business by December? Anybody have any more detailed info? I'm concerned about warranty if that doesn't happen. I have found a retailer that has both rears and one of the fronts but that' all.

you found a maxima with 83,000 km or miles?

 

Why not coilovers? Almost the same cost but much easier install for DIY and they can be adjusted.

i) Coilover for everything but winter
ii) H-Tech + KYB GR2 or more fancier struts for winter

Winter is a good reason to go with coilovers. Something I should have done instead of springs.

 

Yup, mine becomes a snow plow and there's nothing I can do about it. With CO's, there is. And you get added suspension travel, and of course, they're rebuildable and easier to install. The list goes on, I regret it.

 

Where do you live OP? Even if you're in snow territory lots of guys run CO's. Just lift it back up to 4x4 mode, throw winters on and you are set.

 

I put eibachs with kyb gr2s, a conservative 1.5 drop in front 1 inch rear. Snow has not been an issue.

I have read that it would create a bumpy ride. Not at all and the performance gains are worth every penny. Very similar to the se springs.

And I have also read CO are close to same price?? Best I found were over $1000 and the brand was known to be stiff. Can't remember the type.

Springs were $280 delivered and about 350 for kybs. In Vancouver we get snow, but with snow tires I had no issues. I frequent the mountains weekly. All and all I love the eibachs gr2 combo, this car had terrible body roll that was nearly eliminated. Shaving the boots so they stay in place is about the only hassle. Also, consider oem strut mounts.
