Ok, so my car is getting on up there in miles about 172,000 now. It burns oil like mad and it's time will be coming soon. I have seen several mentions of swaps with newer engines on this forum. So I was hoping to get some input on the best/newest model engine to use on a swap. I mean a swap that is not too difficult. The 7th Gen swap is not easy, so that is not in the plan.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I have gathered is that nearly any FWD 3.5 VQ will work up to around 2008 models. Some of them have different engine mounts and that the easiest swap is from Maxima's 2004-2008.

With the 6th gen it seems that you would have to Swap the IM with the old, and the upper oil pan. And possibly a cam and/or crank sensor for 2007-2008? Someone please confirm these things.

How well do engines from Altimas, Quests, or Murano's work? I have read that the Quests have slightly different engine mounts and Altima's have "other" problems.

Opinions and tips appreciated.

Have you sold it already? or are you driving it? If you still have it has it worked well? Any issues I should be aware of?

You seemed to suggest that the 05 engine burns less Oil than a 06? Can anyone else verify this?
