What oil do you recommend for me?

Due for an oil change.. I usually go to the dealer but I've moved and am going to take it to a local shop.

I live in the Chicago suburbs, 70% city, 30% highway. Usually let the car warm up 1-2 minutes before driving. I dont' drive the card to hard either.

I was thinking a synthetic blend?

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Seems like a good option. For those of you who do you use full synthetic, how often do you do oil changes?

I use PP and my oil analysis reported I could go upward of 6500 miles B/T changes.

I've also heard very good reports from members using Moble1.

You can go 200k+ on dino oil changed every 5k. You decide if you want to spend the extra coin for a blend or synthetic.

I have 115k on my 09. I have used Mobile1 since 10k and changed every 7500 per maintenance schedule 2 in the manual. Since I am now out of warranty. I changed to Mobile1 extended performance and go (will go henceforth) 10-15k between changes.
I did the same on my 95 maxima and went 266k without any significant engine issues.

The last time I got the oil change special at advance auto for $32. Thats for 5 quarts of oil and the extended performance filter.

There is no need for this in any modern car, unless you mean because you don't want be cold when you get in. But if you're doing this because you think it's better for the engine, it's not necessary because you have fuel injectors now.

Mobil 1 synthetic imo

Everyone has their own opinion. If your going to spend the money just go synthetic instead of a blend. I use Amsoil signature series oil and filter. Guaranteed for 25,000 and in my opinion is great oil not that i go that long between oil changes. Usually change it every 4 months. Mobil 1 is another great oil and Royal purple i've heard pretty good things about but i also heard it's more geared to the track to run hard and change as apposed to daily driving. Try using different synthetics each oil change and see what you like!

How do you know which oil brand you like. Can any of the readers prove that their favorite oil is the best without doing an oil analysis? Most drivers including myself are clueless as to which oil is best and we have no way to prove which is the best. All I care about is that the oil meets API service classification SN which is formulated to reduce engine deposits, improved fuel economy and is operable with E85 gas. By using synthetic oils (which are superior to Dino oils) at 7500 mile intervals I do not worry about which oil to go with.

Honestly it doesn't matter, most at 3000-5000 are going to be fine and do the same thing for your motor.

Personally I use Mobil1 5w30 15,000 mile extended change oil in my BMWs and I tend to change it around 7500-8500 miles. I have gone a full 15,525 miles on it before.

In my performance oriented engines I use Rotella T6 5w40, and in my older, high mile cars and trucks I use either Rotella T triple, Delo 400 or Delvac 1300, whichever is cheapest at the time.

They are the best value for the dollar I can find without sacrificing protection. I tend to buy my oil at Walmart, regular Mobil1 for $23/5qts or the Mobil1 15k mile for $26/5qts. I think T6 is around $22/4qts and the other three are around the $11-13/4qts mark.

I tend to run Amsoil in my drivetrains, although not so much anymore. I've put 105,000 miles on the Amsoil in my Durango (transmission, transfer case, both differentials) but at this point the oil is 8 years old and I'd rather just change it more regularly with lower cost oil.

The only way is to test your oil. I did an oil analysis with blackstone labs with my qx56 and was fine with 9000 km interval whereas other members could go shorter or longer, so it just depends. Every one drives differently, lives in a different environment and so forth so those factors come into play. I have always stuck with mobil 1 as in my previous clk500 I can go 16 000 km between oil changes...

Thanks for your results as I will go around that interval as a starting point, maybe 5500 miles first to see how the analysis goes...

Thats a good point. Amsoil does have lab tests on their oil analysis though and from what iv'e seen is quite impressive. I also just find IMO that it's been a good oil that iv'e been happy with and like i previously said everyone will have their own opinion.

I've brought my Max to the dealership ever since I got it last year. What brand of oil do they use and can I request something different?
