Roof line issues on 2014 Sport
Roof line issues on 2014 Sport
Buddy of mine liked my 2012 Premium so much that he went out an picked up a 2014 Sport. He and the dealer thought there was an issue with the single panel sunroof that it has. It looked as if the glass was distorted and not properly liming up with the roof line at the back edge of the sunroof glass panel. After replacing two glass panels, the dealer concluded the it wasn't the glass but that the roof had an issue, bad stamping at the factory or something. Dealer gave my friend two options: they would have the body work done to fix the faulty roof or that he could contact Nissan corporate and start the process to either get a full reimbursement or a new vehicle. He's going for the new car as I would. Who wants a brand new $40,000 car with body work done to it. Anyway, these things can happen. The real test for Nissan will be how smooth and painless they make the replacement process for my friend. I was wondering if anyone else has run into this issue and if so, how did it play out.
You may not get a response on this exact issue, because I don't recall seeing it mentioned, and I have seen most problems posted here for over ten years.
Very unusual problem. With this being a brand new car, I would also have opted for a replacement car rather than bodywork.

I agree it will weaken the overall structure of the car if it is put together the wrong way and I bet now that nissan knows about it will give you a new one and scrap that one to avoid a costly law suit if you were ever in a crash .
This is interesting... I had something similar with my 13 Sport, however in my case...all that was needed was a minor adjustment to the glass so that it sat level at the back edge. I'm not entirely sure what they did, but I believe it was corrected using some built in adjustments in the glass panel frame.

The dealer has basically no say and will just tell you what you want to hear.
The dealer will work with Nissan to diagnose the issue but when it comes to buying back a $31K car I bet Nissan sees it with their own eyes.
I'll keep you folks updated on how the process goes. I'm very familiar with the dealer and they are top notch but not sure how much influence/input they have with corporate. Still better than having the dealer disputing the issue with the customer. At least they are on his side on this which can only help. I set my friend up with the Sales Manager (also a friend) when he went to shop for this car. He might be able to exert some leverage if needed. Stay tuned.

It's a new car so your friend has that going for him.
I got what I considered fair compensation from Nissan Consumer but others with the same issue on cars a year or 2 older got nothing.
If I had to do it all over again I would have gone for the buyback. I'm not sure how successful I would have been but I should have tried.
My dealers GM, salesman and especially the service dept were nothing less than incredible but told me upfront Nissan eats 100% of whatever compensation they give me so it was up to them to decide and what the dealer said had no influence.
In my case my old short block was shipped back to Nissan, in your friends case I'm pretty sure they are going to want to inspect that car ( accidents, etc) before they toss a check for $~32 K his way.
BTW , if your friend paid anywhere near $40K, push for the buyback and not the replacement as he can by that car much cheaper
Merry Christmas and GL
Good Luck
