How to listen to music in car from android phone
Just made the switch from an iPhone to an Moto X android phone. Man it's tough to get used to something new! With my iPhone I would just plug the USB cable into and play it like an iPod without any problems. Now I tried plugging in Moto X and it's like the car doesn't even recognize it. Is it possible to use like an ipod in our cars? Maybe I need to use a cable that plugs into my 3.5mm headphone jack and then use RCA's?
I hooked up the Android phone via Bluetooth and streamed music that way but the sound is horrible. It wasn't great with my iPhone but way better sound than the Android via bluetooth.

I think your best audio quality is going to come from a direct connection to your phone.
Ah I found it:

Check out posts #14 and #26. Really you should just read the whole thread.
Hopes this helps!
I was reading somewhere it depends on the file system of the USB drive you're using, in your case the Moto X. I'll have to find the link, and I'm not sure what system Android phones are using. Personally I have a RCA to 3.5mm cable that I plug into my phone when I want to listen to anything on it. I like it this way because I also play videos to hear the music through my radio. Not sure if videos will play through the USB.

I did try a 3.5mm into audio RCA's and it worked, just can't use any of the steering wheel controls (except volume) to change tracks or anything. I guess it's because of the different format like mentioned in that link you sent. I could use my phone to change tracks and what not but I have grown accustomed to using the steering/car controls to change playlists, ski tracks etc.
Have you had any success with your music and changing playlists/folders with your android? Also, what music app do you use on your phone?
You can change the tracks if you have it hooked up via bluetooth. Bluetooth is the way to go for me. I adjusted the equalizer and it is not bad sounding as I thought it would be not bad at all. I had a USB drive but it would take over a minute to read it each time I started the car and It would not shuffle/resume correctly. But an AUX line will give your phone the best quality.

Yes but I also don't expect it to sound as good as being directly wired. I noticed that when I wirelessly stream music from my iPhone it sounds much better than when I wirelessly stream music from my Android Moto X.
I have a Moto X and stream music via BT all the time. I have found that as long as the phone music volume is not turned all the way up, the sound out of the car sounds great. Set the phone's volume somewhere like 1/2 - 3/4. Then use the car's volume to crank it up. Works great for me.

BTW, how do you like your Moto X and who's your service with? I am enjoying it but the call quality hasn't been the best, a lot of static on my end but the other person doesn't hear it. Probably a defective phone.
I tried it again tonight at lower volume settings (on my phone) & it sounds good with the exception of this high frequency distortion type of sound. Almost as my tweeters are blown, but I know it's not really the speakers. It's all good, I'm just going to use an iPod...
Very cool app - thank you! I messed around with it for a little but still couldn't get rid of this weird type high freq rattle. I tried the lowering the pre-amp, treble and the individual high frequencies but nothing would correct it. So I'm wondering if it's something to do with the bluetooth connection itself. That app is sweet and I'll use it anyway.
I used to use an iphone and always used cartunes as it gave me the ability to switch tracks increase/decrease volume using swipes. Now that I'm on the Nexus5, I struggle to find an app that provides the same ease of use and clutter free interface to be able to do this while driving. Does anyone know of an app that matches up to cartunes? the Car Tunes app on the google play store is not the same and cartunes don't make the for android. That sucks!!!

I have a moto X and I stream via Bluetooth. I have no problems or complains at all with quality. I'm a phone geek and it sounds like a software issue on your phone. This is my setup when I connect via Bluetooth.
I use the app called "Google Play Music" which I recommend. On the app, click on top right where the three dots are which is for settings. Once settings is open find "Equalizer". Look for wire stereo and change to this...
Effects profile: custom
Surround: off
Equalizer: Balanced
Then try to play music. If this doesn't help them for sure its a software problem. Make sure your phone is up to date on its software updates. Can check by settings > System Update > update Motorola software. You can also take it to your service provider and they can check out the problem. Good luck!
