How much is my 2k SE 5 speed worth?

Hi all,

My wife wants a 2k2 and I'm wondering what you think my 2000 Maxima SE 5 Speed is worth 1) trade in and/or 2) private sale.

The car is sterling mist, runs perfect, has 35,000 miles on it.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!!

If that is all that our cars are worth, I will never, ever buy another Japanese car. Much less a Maxima, regardless of horsepower. I paid $22k last July for my fully loaded SE. $5-6K worth of depreciation is way above any car that I can think of. Way much more depreciation than I can afford.

Come on now, gotta understand the minute you drive off the lot you lost 2-3k right there. The rest is normal considering a new model just came out with more hp.

That is normal, at least it aint bad as american cars, next year it is like 50% less.

The average depreciation on new cars is roughly $3,500 per year. That is on cars that start around $20k+. Now $6-7k, that is a little on the steep side. By the time you wait three to four years to trade in your max, will it be worthless? No thank.

Not to be rude, but what the hell do you drive? And, did you have any clue about that enormous depreciation rate? I, for one, sure as hell would never buy anything with that kind of anticipated depeciation rate.

Then you better buy a Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, or a Lexus. Those are the only cars with good resale these days.

Think we have it bad? Think of the guys trying to trade in BMW's...

Well, the above figures are without any options. If, like most SEs, you have leather power seats bose and climate, and in excellent shape, the numbers are more like this:

trade in - $15,369

private party - $17,104

retail - $18,998

You guys that trade your car in every year should be leasing... I gave up on buying cars since I got something new every year. Now I lease, make way lower payments, and if I get sick of the car, I just sell it outright for the payoff.
