Suspension sound.
Suspension sound.
the sound is a squeaky sound does it all the time when the car is in movement. it started on the front right side. and now its coming from my left side as well. Before in cold it was noticeable but when it got warmed up it, you could barely hear it. Now cold or hot its loud. I searched up busted struts or struts mounts and its not the same. When i push on the top of my car driver side hood it does the sound. moves up and down about twice. Could it be my struts? Any ideas? Car has 146000 miles with no history. struts dont look like they are covered in oil.
If your car feels bouncy when you push down on the hood your struts are shot. It shoul feel firm and go right back to resting position with little to no extra travel. The whole bounces two times part is what makes it seem like they are worn down.
I just actually went to go check and nope its firm. i didnt it again and one time down and back to its spot. I tried the back and those are shot. it moved up and down like 4 times but the front ones just once.
oh i forgot to add as i turn the steering wheel all the way to either side it does the creaking sound. No popping or clunks only when the car is still. when im driving and i turn it doesnt do that sound just the squeaky
In that case the front struts are likely good for now. My next guess would be the strut bearing that is in the top strut mount. Having creaking when turning is a classic symptom of a worn strut bearing.
^^ especially when not moving. If you're clicking while moving, it's likely CV axle. But if car is not moving and you get creaking/squeaking/squealing with the movement of the wheel, it's most likely strut mount bearing related.
Remove the strut assembly from the car, use spring compressor to compress spring, disassemble top of strut, replace mount bearing, reverse procedures to reassemble.
In the pic below, the gray circular thing is the bearing...while the link shows the emtire strut mount. Less than 50 bucks each, worth replacing anyhow.

I had this** botherd me a looong time replaced every thing axels, bushings, links, wheel bearings... No result... Found out it was my strut bearings, changed out the struts and now the car is quiet as ever... Take it into consideration awesome result
Hahaha im a noob when it comes to cars. Only thing ive done to my car is changed th ignition switch, rotors brakes, starter and thats pretty much it. Also i wish i had time and space. I live in apartments. I also wanna add that on small road bumps.or cracks i feel the car loses control. Struts are good. So im thinking shocks, lca bushings or strut bearing.
I have a 95 maxima that was very noisy as well. I replaced the front struts with "quick struts" and the annoying sounds went away. The strut bearings and mounts can get very "noisy" and still appear to be in good condition.
You will save money by just fixing the internal parts of the upper strut mount and bearing but it is labor intensive and can be very dangerous. Quick struts are complete spring and shock assemblies and are less of a pain to reinstall
Basically just jack vehicle, support vehicle with jack stands, remove wheel, loosen three nuts on top of strut tower that is under the hood, unattach brake line/hose from strut assembly, loosen and remove two large nuts/bolts on bottom of strut assembly, get assistant to remove the three nuts on top of strut tower while you hold onto strut assembly, remove strut from vehicle.
The rear struts are two nuts inside the trunk on each side and then a large bolt on the bottom of the strut.
I did the quick struts for convenience on front and back of the maxima. They provided no performance upgrade, just brought back the ride quality. Each front quickstrut was around $200. Each rear was about $150. I purchased from a major parts dealer and used a coupon code (40 % off orders over $100) and bought them one at a time. The prices i listed above are without the coupon code. I am sure you can find them cheaper now. I did mine 3-5 years ago.
I was very satisfied when the noise went away.
Hope this helps. Sorry about the long read

I had a bad strut bearing. Mine did the same thing, i just replaced both front struts... I didnt want to take the whole thing apart where i could just get new struts and springs with a new bearing in them so did that and huge difference and no more sound
