Any one have directions or a video/tutorial on it? Searched the forum already and no luck.

 

The main battery wire? Or just the one that runs to the starter? That one is easy, the main wire is not. Unless it is completely tore up, or corroded all the way through, I wouldn't worry about it.

Four easy steps:
1) Disconnect the battery and remove it from the vehicle.
2) Remove the old cable.
3) Install the new cable.
4) Install the battery and reconnect it.

To celebrate, drink beer.

 

I'm not sure how to do it as the red plastic piece is in there. Wanted to replace the whole thing so that it is easier to manage.

 

The terminal as well.

 

Im pretty sure the wire that has the red plastic piece runs into the fuse box. You can replace the terminal without replacing that wire. Why are you wanting to replace the wire? Whats wrong with it?

Probably not that hard, but why do it if it's not absolutely necessary? The only wire that would make sense to replace is the starter positive wire. No point in replacing the other one unless it is corroded all the way through or something.

My terminal is basically done for its mush and only the top is hanging on to the post.

 

Is there a way to just replace the terminal? The positive wire is crimped to the terminal and the attachment from that plastic piece is attached to the terminal also.

 

The terminal is on the battery itself. Are you talking about the metal clamp that attaches to the terminal? Terminology is important

 

Yes there is benefit. Better wire and connectors. 17year old wire and connectors arent ideal. Replacing them gives you piece of mind and it looks better

 

The battery cable, accessory feed lines (2), and starter solenoid signal wire are all wrapped together into a harness. Remove and unwrap them, then replace the cable with a generic one, or just solder a new lug on.

 

they make clamp style to just go to a knowledgable parts store and they'll show you how to do it. all you do is cut the metal ends off and clamp them into the new connection.

 

Replace the starter power wire and the terminal clamp and you will be fine. Even if replacing the main positive wire helps a little, it won't go far, as every other wire past where that wire ends is going to still be 15+ years old. All I've done, and what many do, is replace the starter positive wire and the terminal clamp, and that does fine. Unless you plan on replacing every wire in that car, it really isn't worth trying to replace the main positive wire.

DO NOT do this. These are for emergencies only and are meant to be temporary. They all inevitably fail.

 

Order the wire from Nissan and replace it. Did mine a few years back but wished the wires going to fuse box was replaceable. Tabs broke off as they were seized in old wire. Every time the fans turn on or hit a switch, the lights dim...but not sure if its not making a proper connection.

 

I bought my parts from AutoZone for 9$, and replaced it in a casino parking lot. in 15 minutes, accessory wires and all.
