yes i did that

i cut it off my stock shifter and my STS. i think i lopped off about 5 inches. just enough to keep the **** from being recessed in that little hole where the boot is. I used a hack saw and a magnet to collect the shavings. I love the shorter way better.

superchiu did that and there was no problem. he cut it about 2.5 inches. just so you know, it doens't reduce the throw but the height of the shifter so you won't get the efficiency a short throw kit will give you but have the look of a short throw kit.

rip ur stock shift **** off, cut it down about 2 inches, put a nice momo round **** on it, and enjoy, shifts are not harder, they are "crisp", the stock setup is something out of a pickup truck

The cut down is somewhat of a lot of work for so little gain. Sure it looks better and but you never escape that the throw is so long. Do yourself a favor and go for the STS right from the get-go. Pacesetter is only $70 from JCWhitney. Install is the main problem but it is doable. Even on my 95 with rust, it took me about 2.5 hours. It's tight under there and you will get a stiff neck but it is sooooo worth it. The STS is one of the most fulfilling mods out there for a 5 spd. I tried the cut down. Ended up ordering the STS a few days after... It is not worth the time and money (saw, universal ****) spent on the cut down. Get the STS and a quality screw down **** (instead of the universal) and you will have a great setup.

its not that much work. its a lil tough but its not difficult. personally i think taking off one emblem is tougher than this.
to me, cutting the shifter and getting a short throw are two completely different things. its not worth comparing.
if you wanna jus do something for free, and make you feel a litle better, cut the damn thing.

it doesnt give the look of a STS

STS are just as tall. I cut my STS also. Feels way better. Install is really easy, if you try and have any questions, ill do my best to answer them. There was only one tricky part to the install and that was separating the shifter from the pivot point. I dont drive a truck for a reason, and a tall shifter is one of those reasons.

Depends what STS you have. Pacesetter/SMC when adjusted for short throw, also results in a significant height reduction from stock. If you ever plan to get a good screw down ****, please do not cut down you STS. I had a universal **** which was held to the shaft with 3 screws. It didn't compare to the Sola Luna **** that I have now which screws down tight and sits lower than just about ANY universal **** because the top of the STS is situated at near the top of **** once threaded down all the way. It just feels so much more solid and connected. Every little vibration is transmitted and shifting feels more precise.

I highly recommend Pacesetter. I highly recommend the Sola Luna *****. For the price you can easily get the STS and Sola Luna **** together for the price of other STS's.
Sola Luna **** at RSpeed, $39.95
