Has anyone ever taken there tail lights apart?(need help).

As some of you guy's probably know I am trying to clear the orange out of my 2002 tail lights. Everything was set to go on Tuesday night but I ended braking my tail light into pieces{I used a hair drier}. So I bought a heat gun yesterday and decided to practice on my 2000 tail lights, the heat gun did not help at all. It seems the tail lights are presure fitted into place or something becuase heating them up does not seem to help much. There is no glue holding them together like on the headlights or 4th gen's. So has anyone ever taken them apart, if so how? Any tips would be great. I may just end up using my dremel and cuting them apart, sanding them down and then glueing/sealing them back together{this works but is a big pain}.

Thanks for any help or suggestions

I myself think the 2k1 tail lights painted to match the color of the car look the best.

If I can figure out a way to get the damn things opened I am going to paint the inside sterling mist{factory matched} and then pop in my custom clear red reflectors. I am not going to paint the clear lenses, just the internals and I will leave the chrome ring un-painted, I think this combo would look killer!

Now back to opening them up?

Emax, how much have you spent in total? You broke the 2000 GXE tails, then you bought another pair. Then now you bought a heat gun just for that very purpose.

Once I start doing something I make it a point to finish, I guess that makes me stubern.

Total so far? Ohh geez, it pushing close to $300 + another 30 for a can of factory matched spray paint. BTW broke one of my 02 tail lights too, it actually does not look bad with out the clear plastic.

I am going to put together a custom black one{just for a minute} to show you guy's with black car's just how nice it looks. If all goes well the project will be completed by next weekend.

I broke the tail light and then continued and poped out teh lense. The pic I posted about is a pic of my tail light broken, the clear cover is no longer on it(hard to see). I will wory about leaks once I make the finished product, right now it is one BIG leak .

just get some weather silcone and make sure the seal is air-tight..once it stars leaking, it's gonna be a major pain in the butt.

Yep, when I dremel my tails apart I am going to do a little sanding, then epoxy them down and follew them up with some silicone sealant.
