Will it rev past 4500 when parked? If so does it do it quickly?

Mine did that when I forgot to plug the MAF sensor in. Limp mode.

Is your Service Engine (check engine) light on? Does it come on during bulb test?

I'm thinking you have ignition coil problems.

Take the car to an auto parts store and ask them to read the codes. The ECU stores the codes, so there should be one or two there.

If you have codes in the P03xx range or P1320, you have ignition coil failure.

The 1995 Nissan Maxima is OBD II in spite of what those morons tell you. Because the law said that all 1996 vehicles had to be OBD II, they just assume without checking anything that the 1995 Maxima is not.

10 05 = P1400 EGRC Solenoid/Valve
11 03 = P0731 1st Gear Signal (auto trans)

Since you have a manual trans, the 11 03 is not correct. Try reading it again or take it to an auto parts store. The OBD connector is located by the ECU in the passenger side foot well.

The P1400 is not causing the rpm limit.

But the P0705 code may be causing the rpm limit. One of the causes is the neutral position switch on the transmission.

See page 231 - http://boredmder.com/FSMs/Nissan/Maxima/1995/EC.pdf

See page 235 for the P1400 code.

I don't see how a 705 would cause a rpm limitation. Maybe you can go into some detail on the theory. Not arguing honestly just trying to understand. I bypassed the tcu and use toggles to shift and have at least a few transmission codes but none have an adverse affect on rpm.

The P0705 could maybe result in rpm limits because if the ECU doesn't know if you are in gear or not, it just might do it in case you are in neutral and revving the **** out of the engine. I'm theorizing though.

What is concerning me now is that you keep getting different codes, which makes it hard to believe anything. I wonder if you have an electrical issue, such as an alternator problem that has too much ripple in it or maybe a grounding problem, like the main ground under the battery.

I don't have any definite ideas. Maybe the throttle position sensor is messed up.
