95 SE for $3800 - is this a good deal?

It's a 5spd, white w/cloth interior. The guy is asking $3800 so I could probably get it for about $3600. 164k, original owner, just had some maintenance work done to it and he says it's in excellent shape. Is this a good deal or am I crazy to buy a car w/164k on it? We need a 4dr and my budget is about $5k. It's coming down to this or a '91 Legend. I found a Legend w/110k for about $4800. What do you think?

You will probably need to get a new tranny at those miles.

My car has almost 160K on it and its still running strong as long as you take good care of it it'll take care of you. So I would definetaly buy the Max. You might have problems with a starter but tranny wise you should be alright my 5spd runs great. Good Luck.

Yes its a very good deal. My car has 150k and is running fine. Check the compression. You may need new tran and clutch.

I saw a 96 5spd for $4800 in the auto trader. If I had some extra cash I would buy it and modify it. Keep my 99 stock for everyday. Or maybe keep the 99 for modding (lower miles) and drive the 96 everyday. I guess it doesn't matter since I don't have the money anyways. BTW, does looking for 5spd, the car is located somewhere in South Florida.

Even with that many miles it's probably a good deal. I mean you could have some major engine/tranny work done and it would still be worth it, IMO.

Drive the car first. If it was taken care of then you shouldnt worry about the tranny. Its those people who do burn outs and 5K clutch drop worry about the tranny. If the car looks like its been taken care of then buy it but make sure it drives good. Go to the dealer and drive 2 other maximas with 5spd to see the difference. One owner is not allways the best. Dont forget to run carfax. Good luck.

BTW Write back what happened.

BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT

I had the same situation a month ago..Many told me yes, many told me no. It was the best decision I ever made. 95 SE white, tan leather, automagic, fully loaded for $4300. Had 174K miles, now 176K with no problems. Shifts smooth, engine runs PERFECT, ect...Keep in mind that there is no scratches/dents and a few paint chips on the hood. Inside is immaculate. Just a rundown on what the guy had done to it before I bought it: Alternator, regular tranny flushes at 60K miles, records for oil changes, all brakes, calipers, rotors, fuel/air filters, spark plugs/wires, and a new knock module. I am praying this car will make it the next 3 years until I graduate college. No signs of it giving up anytime soon. Just drive it, see how it feels, and if h has good records, go for it....Anyone in a 4th gen hit 200,000 yet? I am close...

i say go for it.....take it for a few test drives both local and highway......try to get it at around 80MPH.....a little bit of vibration will be normal for a car that heavily used......but if it does vibrate......eh....that wood kinda turn me off

BUY IT!!!

I was shopping around for a used Max earlier this year and they really hold their value! It's probably worth $6000. Of course, inspect the car in detail yourself, and ask for maintainance records. But assuming the car was well taken care of and the driver wasn't an *** with his car, 160k miles is just breaking in!!!

Good luck!

The VQ will last a very long time if you treat it right.
