Any ideas for this little problem?

Hey everyone. I'm a new member here. Can't believe I never joined earlier considering how much of a Max fan I am. Owner since 98.

Anyway, my car has been doing something kinda weird. When I'm coming to a stop at a light or whatever, I shift into neutral and the rpms drop down low and then come back up to idle. They do't go extremely low but enough for me to notice. It doesn't seem to happen when the A/C is on however. I recently did my tune-up and cleaned out the throttle body and new fuel filter, etc so it shouldn't be a fuel problem. I also checked the mass air meter and saw it was clean. Could this have something to with the idle air bypass valve?

Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Both of the Max's I've owned do that. I just wrote it off as being kinda normal. When the AC is on the ECU has the engine idling higher to run to compressor...so you wouldn't notice it then as you noted.

My 96 GXE auto does the same. At idle when I shift from D to N, the idle drops a little then comes back a little. It's been doing that for a long time. I'm not sure if it's a problem, but guess not. There is always a transition time that whatever the controlling unit need to take, when engine load changes.

Actually, my car is a 5spd. And it only happens when I'm rolling and put in neutral to come to a stop. The whole incident happens for about a second. I only recently started noticing it...

I've noticed that to be the case with most fuel injected autos I've driven in the last 6 years. I would say its the ECU doing some calculations to get the idle back on track (I could be wrong).

maybe there are deposits the IAC valve . try taking off the air cleaner assembly and spray some air-intake cleaner (i use crc brand) in the throttle body and see if it'll help. it might be a cheap simple fix.
