Need Help: Can't get unlock door remote to program (00' Maxima)

Hello everyone,

First off, I want to say I researched this topic pretty thoroughly before posting this.

Now, when I bought my Maxima last summer it never came with a keyless entry remote.

I bought one on eBay. When it was listed, it specifically said it was for a 2000 Maxima (which I have), and claimed to work and have a working battery.

My car is also an SE, has leather, bose, sunroof, heated seats etc etc. Reason I am saying this is because I would guess a fully loaded car would come with keyless entry, right?

So I found these instructions online:

1. Close and lock all doors with the driver's side power lock/unlock switch.

2. Insert key into ignition and remove it from the ignition key cylinder at least six times within 10 seconds. Your Hazard Lamps will flash if you have performed this step successfully. NOTE: Withdraw key completely from ignition cylinder each time. If this procedure is performed too fast, system will not enter programming mode.

3. Insert key into the ignition cylinder and turn to the ACC position.

4. Within 5 seconds, push ANY button on the remote transmitter. Your Hazard Lamps should flash. NOTE: Do not press the button more than one time in the above step. If the button is pressed more than one time, the programming procedure will not be successful.

5. If there are any remaining transmitters (including the old ones), unlock then lock all doors using the driver's side power lock/unlock switch and within 5 seconds, push ANY button on the next remote. Your Hazard Lamps should flash. Repeat this step for each transmitter (including any existing transmitters).

6. Turn the key to the OFF position, remove keys from the ignition, unlock doors using the driver's side power lock/unlock switch and open the driver side door.
I followed those instructions! So when I took the key in and out of the ignition, the hazards lights flashed, but when I got to step 4, the hazard lights wouldn't flash, and the remote doesn't work. Even though eBay said the remote had a working battery, I went and bought a new one anyways and it still doesn't work.

I tried searching and found this thread:

http://forums.nicoclub.com/2000-maxi...m-t582446.html

In this thread, the guy said to open this pdf document and check page EL247 for the Multi-Remote Control System.

I went to page EL247 and found this picture:

Size: 206.9 KB

So I popped my hood, took of the fuse cover, and found this:

So the multi-remote control system fuse doesn't exist on my car?

I GUESS the purpose of this thread is, is my car capable of having a keyless entry remote, and if so, how the heck can I get it to work.

Thanks

Ray

Also, when I bought the car it only came with 1 key. It isn't a Nissan key, it's an after market key (Strattec). Could this maybe be part of the problem?

If your 2 hazard lights blinked after putting the key in over 6 times, then your alarm system works and was in program mode. I say it must be a defective remote. Ive programmed ny 4rth gen and now my 5.5 gen with these exact instructions and it worked. Check the battery maybe

Also. When you close your doors and lock it up, does the red security light blink? (By the clock on the dash) If so then your car is equipped with keyless entry

I actually put a new battery in the remote with no luck. On the eBay ad, it said it was in working order and it also said it came with a working battery. I'll probably message the guy I bought it from.

Yes, it does have the security light and it does blink when the doors are locked.

In that link on nicoclub, what you are looking at is an error in the service manual. If you go to page 340 in that same link, you will see a different drawing for that relay bank. Page 340 is correct. I don't know what car the drawing on page 247 is for. It is not the 4th gen Maxima, either.

As far as I know, all 5th gen Maximas had the remote door locks as standard equipment. But regardless, as svillegas2253 said, the hazard lights flashing tells you it went into programming mode.

Maybe the keyfob (the remote) is not the correct one for the car. These things are small radio transmitters and the radio frequency is not the same for all the different year models.

The 2000 Maxima uses a keyfob with a FCC ID of NHVWBU43. No other year of the Maxima uses this radio frequency. The 2001 Maxima keyfob looks the same, so people assume it will work on a 2000 also. The FCC ID is molded into the plastic on the back side of the keyfob it it is a Nissan keyfob. After markek keyfobs may not be labeled.

Thank you very much, this is the exact info I needed. When I purchased the keyfob it was listed to work for a 00 and 01 Maxima. This key fob has a FCC ID of KBRASTU10.

This is funny, because right before I discovered this post I was at my buddy's and he has a 01 Maxima. I tried programming his spare remote and it didn't work. After I read your post I checked, and the remote I have and his have the same FCC ID. Looks like I'll have to sell mine and get the correct remote.

Thanks for the help.

Yes, KBRASTU10 is the 2001 keyfob.

Such is the danger of buying off of e-bay. If it hasn't been super long, contact e-bay and they will get you your money back. The product was mis-represented, or falsely represented, or something like that. It may take a couple of weeks, though. Present your case to e-bay resolutions department. Product was advertised to work with both a 2000 and 2001 Maxima, Nissan designed different parts for the 2 year models and they are not compatible.
