This one is for all you tranny guys

Long time no see Org.

So yesterday my wife was claiming my 02 6MT would not go into reverse. When I got home from work and checked it out, I noticed that she was right. It would go into forth gear, but not reverse. I took the factory air cleaner housing off, inspected all the linkage and moved the linkage by hand while she tried to get it into reverse. It finally did. After that, it started going into reverse again. I did notice in the last few months that during normal driving it was getting harder and harder to get the Max into reverse. Some time ago, the main bushing that sits on top of the trans popped out of its place due to a missing "Jesus" clip. I slid the bushing back and put another clip on it. Every since then, reverse has never actually felt the same.

Has anyone come across this same problem?

Ok. How about this. Searched but found no info. Does anyone have any links on how to adjust the shift linkage on the 6MT?

Could your bracket on the trans be bent or cracked? I know the oe 5.5 is weak and people swap to the 6th gen unit.

Any extra noise in the transmission? My Sentra Spec V 2004 (6 speed as well) that I used to own started getting louder and noisier until one day it blew the outside countershaft bearing right out. I lost Reverse and Sixth on the highway but was still able to limp her to work.

I found the problem. There is a good 1/4 inch of slack on the pin that pulls up on the shaft when engaging into reverse. I will snap a pic and post it on here at a later time. I wonder if it got damaged or something fell off of it when the bushing fell out.

Here it is. Look closely at the circled part. This bracket sits on top of the trans. The pin that lifts up the lever to put it into reverse has a great deal of slack. Anyone of you guys with a 6MT, please look at yours and see if yours has a thicker outer layer on this pin. It's almost like it's missing something.

I knew I was missing something. Good luck finding this in a junk yard. Called the dealer and it's part of the trans.

Good have to have someone at work fabricate something.

Can anyone with a 6MT send me a pic of what it is supposed to look like? Trying to get an idea of how much clearance I need.
