I replaced my bose head unit with the Pioneer Avic F900BT a few years ago. You would need to buy the GXE center ventilator assembly for it to fit. Really easy install. You can essentially get whatever double DIN radio you like. I've seen some people with units where the screen pops out, but I like double DIN because it looks very clean and seamless.

Thanks one of my main concerns was fitting. What about the steering wheel controls will they work with any unit?

You will need an adapter to use the steering wheel controls, such as the PAC SWI-RC or the Axxess ASWC-1.

If you are not replacing the Bose speakers, then you will need the PAC ROEM NIS2 line adapter.

Did you wire the speakers directly to the new unit or did you use a line adapter? If you wired them directly they won't project as much sound because they are being driven by the head unit instead of the proprietary amp for the Bose system.
