USB and audio jack question
Does anyone know if a USB port can accept audio from a 3.5 mm audio jack? Specifically, I want an aftermarket XM radio to connect via USB, and I know they make adapters, but looking for a definite answer if they will work together.
A USB port is used to transfer digital information (1's and 0's), The audio from a 3.5 mm audio jack is analog (infinite values). You have to have an adapter to convert the signal from analog to digital. You cannot them connect directly.
The standard USB A plug
Pin 1
VCC (+5 V, red wire)
Pin 2
Data− (white wire)
Pin 3
Data+ (green wire)
Pin 4
Ground (black wire)
If the XM radio has a digital output you may be able to use that with better results.
