Advice on Re painting side mirror

Hi Guys,
I had to replace my passenger side mirror. It is sort of the same color as the car, but I decided to paint it anyway because the paint is all buggered up. How many coats would you advise I put on of color and how many coats of clear coat? I tend to over do things.
Thanks

Sand it well (OFF the car, btw you don't want overspray )

three light coats

three coats clear

buff the roughness, polish, and you're good to go

Thank you for your reply. The mirror is off the car and masked off. I sanded and cleaned it up with alcohol. I appreciate your answer.

I've painted my mirrors a few times. Only the little cover is painted so I like to remove it. You pry the mirror off it and access 3 screws and the cover comes off easily. This way, there's no chance of overspray because it's off the car.

Depending on temps, you might be able to get away with two heavier coats. No less than two. I tend to use a slightly heavier final clear. If you are afraid of getting runs, go with three light coats.
