Find a thread where a 4th gener said they could beat a 02 and I'll give you a cookie.

I'm willing to bet there are some NA bolt-on 4th gens that can hang with or beat a 02 auto/6 speed in stock form or with an intake and catback. A few auto 2k2s and 6 speed 2k2s (stock and with intakes) have hit 14.3s-14.7s@94-96mph which is right in line with a handful of 4th gens with an intake, y-pipe, and exhaust. I believe the quickest NA Max is still a 4th gen, right? The 2k2 Max is by far a quicker car in stock form. There's no doubting that. Unfortunately for the 2k2, it looks like the "Holy Grail" of NA mods will not apply to this model because of the current design. I don't see how anyone could come up with a pipe for the 2k2 that will rival the gains of y-pipe on a 95-01 Maxima.

Overall, with an intake, exhaust tweaks, and lighterweight wheels, the 2k2 will probably be the fastest Max to date by a couple tenths. However, many 2k2 owners believe thier Maxs are lightyears ahead in terms of acceleration compared to a 4th gen, which isn't true. Am I scared of the 2k2 in a drag race? No not really. My driving has improved substainally over the past year and I consider myself a pretty good driver. I know the 2k2 is probably a faster car in the right hands, but there are very few people that know how to drive on the street or strip.

I had a 96 SE and I thought that thing was a POS. The car's interior rattles and it felt like there was a lot of flex in the chassis. The engine knocked despite the fact I give it 92 octane (but then my y2k knocks a little too). And the 5th gen is just soooo much more refined. It's like the 4th gen was the Beta and 5th gen was the Final. Comparing my 4th gen to my 5th is like comparing a maxima to a 540 Speed is not everything, if that was the case, everybody would be running around with riced out Honduhs.

I have a 96 and it doesn't rattle much. It's reliable as the day I got it too. But, I do love the interior of the 5th. Much more refined. I think my next car will be a G35 or Z though.

Hmmmm....I have the exact opposite opinion of 5th gens......assembled better than the 4th gens, but feels even more soul-less than the 4th gens.......

3rd gens rule.

My Max has very few rattles and this is on Intrax springs and 30 degree weather. In the warmer weather I've got no rattles. I think that's quite an accomplishment for a 6 year-old car. However, I have driven seven other 4th gens now and it does seem that some of the later 96+ 4th gens do have dash rattle problems, especially the A-pillars and upper dash.

I forgot to mention that if the European/Middle East 4th gen (220hp) variable intake works (3 of them in the US currently), you 2k2 Max guys may be running for cover. This may be the NA "13 second" mod for the 4th gen
