BOSE problem

I have hated having the BOSE radio since day one. Well now the P.O.S. has stopped playing CDs. Every body has told me that the "normal person" can not rewire a BOSE stereo. Wrong answer. The words can and not do fit together. If any one has any information that they can tell me about this, please let me know. Thanx

P.S. If you hear some anger in this post I'm sorry it was been a bad weekend.

Stop playing CD's for how long? My double-din has cut out a couple of times, only to come around and play like normal a couple of hours later. Weird.

Re: BOSE problem

Rewiring the BOSE system is fairly easy, its just going to take some time, how much time depends upon how good you are with tools and your hands. Basicly it involves replacing the head unit and the speakers with aftermarket stuff. Do you want to replace the Bose speakers as well? There is an adapter you can buy which allows you to run a non-Bose head unit with the system, HOWEVER let me warn you, Bose is notorious for putting in crossovers etc to make the system sound better then it really is. The head unit may house one of those crossovers, I'm not sure, so it might change the way it sounds. I would recomend replacing the speakers anyway because the suck! All highs no lows must be BOSE!! So if you opt for that remove the head unit, remove the speakers, then run new speaker wire from the aftermarket head unit to the factory speaker locations and wire it in. Try to use the grommets in the door to run the wire so its not exposed. If your really good you can try to locate the factory amp, bypass it and use the factory wires, but I would run new wire because I'm all about upgrading the system. It will take you a few hours I would guess, save it for a weekend project when you have time. Have fun and good luck

This is actually a very common problem with the BOSE units. You can refer here for more info:

Crossovers are what can make a crappy speaker sound good and a good speaker sound like crap. Too bad bose knows this and sells crap that sounds half decent.

This same exact thing happened to my 95 SE. I think it's a fairly common problem. Try a search I'm sure someone has done a write up on it.

This has happened to me a few times also so wait a little while and it might start working again.

Re: BOSE problem

These Bose units are complicated and unless you're an electronics expert, I wouldn't bother trying to fix it yourself. If you send it in to be fixed by a service center, you'll probably spend about $200 getting it done, not including shipping. That's an average estimate.

Your best bet is to put that $200 towards newer technology (how many people listen to tapes anymore anyway?). There are several adapters available for converting your existing speakers to work with a 3rd party head unit, averaging about $50. I installed mine without much of a problem (I got my "amplifier" and antenna leads mixed up the first time). I put in a JVC KD-SH99 which plays MP3's. I've loved it ever since and don't miss my old Bose system.

Just my .02; hope this helps.
