High pitch whine under heavy acceleration

So last night I got my Michelin Primacy MXM4's installed and I noticed I needed an alignment. I got that done this morning and then on the way home I had a couple of excuses to hammer it while passing and I noticed a fairly prominent high pitch whine at high RPMs while accelerating. I have never noticed this before, but it's possible the noise of my loud *** OEM tires were hiding the noise. It only happens under load, not while in park and revving the engine. I have the Takeda short ram intake and if there is an issue I am afraid the dealer will just blame it on that.

Any thoughts?

Normal. It's the CVT.

Agree.

My Max is dead quiet most of the time, but every so often under hard acceleration, I can hear the whine. CVT's used to whine a lot more, believe it or not.

If you hear it all the time or hear it every time you get on the gas, it might be a good idea to take it in. If you only hear it every so often, it's more than likely nothing but standard CVT whine.

Ok thanks, that one day was the only time I heard it so far. I will get on it a few times on the way home and see if I hear it.

I had my cvt replaced at 57k miles. I only have 4k on the new cvt and its pretty quiet compared to the old one and much more responsive.

I have a 2010 with 112,000 on it. I replaced CVT fluid at 45,000 and 75,000 miles, then just recently at 110,000.

#1, I have done plenty of playing around with CVT temperatures to figure out how hot it gets with some abusive driving and when this transmission starts getting hot, it gets very noisy with the whine.

#2, I HAD the high rpm whine until I changed the fluid. That's how I know it's time to change the fluid. It probably is ok to wait for the fluid change, but I would rather be safe. A drain/refill completely eliminates the whine. Totally silent now.

Late,
Trav
