Finally replaced my BOSE

Finally replaced my Bose system with SONY CDX620
I paid 150 total just for the installation...
Some might say it's an outrageous price just for the installation, but the trouble with replacing the head unit while keeping the Bose speakers intact is, believe me, lot of trouble.
I am not satisfied with the sound quality I'm getting however...
For 400 dollar job, I expected to get noticeable boost in quality of sound, but the sound quality is almost identical to my ol' Bose system.
My two cents: Keep your Bose system...
Bose already has decent sound quality that is par with most of aftermarket stereo systems offer.

Ow.. sorry to hear that you shovelled out so much money. Instead of buying that Sony receiver, you should have invested in that JVC receiver that plays MP3's. Most definitely worth it there to upgrade because you can now put 120 songs on a CD and only carry like 5 CD's in the car. Anyways, sorry thats off topic, but thats what I shall be doing!

I have completely rebuilt the systems in both my max's. I compete from time to time. If you have any questions let me know. Know offense but... Sony is know for using cheap processors. Although it should be better than bose. Did you rewire the whole car? If you left the stock speakers and only wired into the factory amps, all you did is change the head and your still using the bose amps.

I would have done the install myself. It should be a piece of cake! Wiring should be OK.

I'm happy with my Bose...I just got a CD changer or I might consider one of those MP3 players. What's a decent MP3? I'm sure there are lots of comments around the org....search...

I don't really want to change my head unit but I want to get the Rio mp3 player. They said that its not too good to use it with the bose head unit.

Re: Finally replaced my BOSE

What kind of Bose adaptor did you use?? That could be key in the quality of the sound. I replaced my Bose HU with a Clarion, while keeping the rest of the bose stock. I used the PD-4 from www.linkmeup.com. The sound is very similar, if not the same, as my original setup, as I expected because the speakers and amps are still the same. Also, there were improvements, such as;

The Clarion has dual 24 bit D/A converters. I really noticed more detail in my music Cds from before.

The Carion plays mp3s. Never had that capability before.

The Clarion unit also has tighter bass. I don't know what that's due to, but its nice. The Bose had more rumbling, less detailed bass, the Clarion is better.

When compared to my home system, the Clarion setup is much more true to the original sound soruce than the Bose HU was.

Where is the Bose amp, can I get a signal from the BOSE HU, before it gets to the amp?

Re: Where is the Bose amp??

The Bose amp is the little circuit board right next to the speaker. Each one is good for about 55watts.

You can get the signal from the HU, but you have to de-BOSEify it,too. Remove esxcess bass etc. I on't know what the wires are, I just got the harness and adaptor.

Nope. The bose speakers have like 1 ohm resistance. Really weird and unique situation.
