2011 Maxima 84K miles.

High pitch whining noise coming from the driver side under hard acceleration(>5K rpm) in both D and Ds modes. Is this normal? I've noticed the sound in the highway while switching lanes.

 

Has the CVT oil ever been changed?

 

It was replaced at 60K miles. NS-2 fluid.

 

Does your Maxima whine when you floor it? Mine does that when I floor it on the highway.

Also I heard the same noise while making U turns. Hard on the throttle.

Is this normal? Afraid the CVT might go out

 

I've don't drive aggressively or have ever floored it, never heard a whine. Don't know where the whine might be coming from, but I would suspect your driving style is probably a contributing factor. It puts a lot of stress on the drivetrain.

Driving aggressively once and a while should not hurt these cars what so ever. It's silly to buy a 40k 300hp car advertised as a 4 door sports car and drive it like an old granny all the time afraid you're going to break it. If your not going to use it why not buy one of the higher end 4cyl sedans and save yourself some gas mileage and insurance cost? Aggressively accelerating should not put any stress on the car it's not designed to take.


Yes, I hear the whine too. It seems more prominent with the Takeda intake as well, not sure if it just seems that way or not.

 

YUP. I agree. Or agreed, rather. See my CVT failure thread. Never deliberately abusive and was a die-hard CVT lover. Just liked to use the power this car has when needed. Thats all good and well for a while. The CVT really cant take it for the long-term. Just FYI...

If hearing whine, check fluid level. Make sure not overfilled...

 

I had my dealership check it a couple times when I went in for an oil change and both times they said they didn't hear any CVT noise that shouldn't be there. They also said it has a 120k warranty so I guess I won't worry about it for a while yet, if it fails it's under warranty. Not quite to 50k yet but driving 20k+ miles a year I will get closer to the 120k faster than I would like.

 

Ive posted about this several times and did a ton of research....

The best solution I've came up with this is
-Change CVT often! (sadly I do every 25k miles lol)
-No Stillen intake for me during the summer
-Get an aftermarket tranny cooler

That last one im still putting off because Ive heard it NOT voiding your warranty but Im not 100% on this.

I've removed half a quart of fluid leaving the fluid level a cm above the low side. We'll see what happens.

In the mean time I'll refrain from using Ds mode...... low rpms pff... hand me a manual plox

 

I've heard only models < 2010 were covered by this warranty tho. Not 2011 and above.

Yes, the free 120k one I think is just up to 2010(I think). I paid for a 120k extended bumper to bumper.

 

About 2 weeks ago when I was working away from home and my wife was driving my car she called me saying that the car was whining... I do notice I get the sound during long term driving in high heat areas

 

Wonder if anybody can help me.

I have been experiencing sluggish acceration with my 2014 Maxima since it was nearly brand new. I took it to the dealer a few times and since it wasn't throwing any codes, they were unable to diagnose. Now, at 25,000 miles, the trans has developed a whine under hard acceleration between 5-6k RPMs. Here's the link to the video -http://youtu.be/idWEmORtO74

Any idea what might be wrong here? Still no codes, so I don't know what to tell the dealer.
