My GLE does not have stock fogs and I wanted to add LED DRLs so I don't have to have my HIDs on all day. I was looking for an ACC switched connection under the hood, and couldn't find one but noticed the pre-wiring for stock fogs.

My question is if I hook up my DRLs to the stock fog wiring, could I jumper the fog relay to be on when the car is on (much like the always-on cruise control switch mod), or am I missing something?

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Trying to avoid running wiring through firewall to interior fuse box if there are available connections right at the bumper and under the hood.

Does that mean the existing fog wiring pigtails are already hot?

 

The thing about the factory fogs is that they have to be operated by the foglight switch. So unless you wanna switch your DRLs on and off, it'll be frustrating.

 

Yeah that's why I was originally looking for something under-hood that was on the ACC circuit. Figured there may be a way to jumper the relay to where it was just on when car is on.

 

How close do you want to emulate factory DRLs? They go off when the headlights come on. Wiring them to something like the wiper circuit would keep them on as long as the car was on.

But to answer your original question about jumpering the fog lamp relay, the answer is no, the lights would be on even when the car was turned off. What you want to do is wire the fog lamp relay's energizing coil to a switched voltage source.

 

That's fine w/ me, these are small and would either be in the stock fog location or the little slits on either side of the license plate holder.

Will look for a write-up on using that circuit - not very familiar with wiring relays, as far as electrical have only done stereo amp installations.

 

If you don't mind having the wire visible under the hood, the switched 12 volt wire on the wiper motor connector is the light green wire.

If you don't want the wire to be visible, the light green wire is on the bottom of the wiper relay. But there are a lot of wires under the box that holds the relay.

 

Thanks Dennis that's great info - I didn't want to have to pull out the fuse box if I didn't have to and I didn't think one of those Add-A-Circuit fuses would work w/ any of the ATC fuses in the engine bay as they all seemed always-hot.

 

You are correct about all those fuses by the battery, every one of them is hot all the time.

 

Why not just use on of these? They'll cut your DRLs on as soon as the car starts and they'll shut off about 20 seconds after the car is turned off. They'll also shut off or dim when the headlights are on. They'll also shut off the DRL on the side that the turn signal is when your use your turn signals. They'll power from the battery leaving your factory wiring intact.

FYI - since these connect directly to the battery thought these worked via voltage monitoring but they're actually detecting engine vibration and reviews state they are not very reliable.
