Safe hood props/lift supports??

So a while back, the standard hood lift "stick" broke off, and I would use a thick branch in place. A few days ago, I misplaced the branch and now I'm left with nothing. Today I bought a gas-charged lift support called "Mighty Lift" and the installation instructions make no sense at all. Should I return it and just get something durable that'll hold the hood up? any suggestions?
Thanks
EDIT: The God damn stick fell out from under the hood's weight and the hood fell onto my head. Nasty blood blister right on top of my head now. Never again lol

The mighty lifts are struts right? That's where they go.

Yes, that's my Max at last year's Nissan End of The Year meet.

A big tree fell across the street from me yesterday, if you need a piece from it, let me know.

don't buy anything, 4th gen hood struts are a common fail item on almost all of the cars still on the road, either put vice grips on one of the struts or get another stick

The "strong arm" struts come with a lifetime warranty and I believe the "mighty lift" struts do as well.

Although they only do seem to last maybe three to four years, if you keep your sales receipt and packaging you'll never buy another set again.

Removal and installation takes just under 13 seconds.

Problem solved, I got one of those metal rods that you hang curtains on and put a thick layer of duct tape on both ends. Works perfectly, thanks anyway

I would be concerned about a wind gust lifting your hood. The make-or-break pole you made would drop. As would the hood, on your head.

I came close to having this experience with another car.

Gas hood struts are kind of a regular interval replacement item. They are inexpensive and quick to swap out. Just run up to the local part house and buy a new set, life will be so much more pleasurable than carrying a big stick around.
