Used '09 SV, 99K miles

I'm looking to get a read on a used '09 Maxima 3.5L SV w/Premium Package. One for sale close by with 99K miles on it. Mileage doesn't scare me as long as the car has been reliable. What do you owners say?

The only part of this car that is still under warranty is the CVT transmission for 10 years and 120,000 miles. Make sure you have proof that the required maintenance has been done, and above all have this vehicle thoroughly inspected by a professional. A couple hundred dollars spent now might save you big repair bucks in the future.

For reference I have the 09 SV Sport and have found it very reliable without any problems with the exception of buying a new battery because the OEM one failed after two years.

2010 SV Prem

Still running strong at 80k. Tires, oil changes and motor mounts have been replaced. I did replace the oem Batt. but it was still working but didn't want it to fail first.

I guess I'm not the best authority considering I just bought the thing two months ago, but what I can say is that my Maxima is the best put together car I've owned in a while, if not ever. Never owned a Nissan before but I think I probably will again. Mine is a 2012 SV, but I agree with the others that as long as it's been taken care of it should last you well. I haven't read about many common/serious issues on here during my searches.

Again, not that two months experience is saying much more than farting in the wind, but the only problem I've had is that neither of my two 12V power outlets worked when I bought it. I tried the warranty route through the dealer but had trouble getting them to work with my schedule. Turns out the only issue was both fuses were blown, maybe the previous owner ran a hair dryer on full blast, who knows. Very simple fix though and perfect otherwise.

I'd check the oil, my 09 max with 60 k miles burns over a quart an oil change, with no explanation as to why at the dealer.

Congratulations! Please keep us posted as to how it is doing as you put the additional miles on. If it has been properly maintained, you should have an excellent ride!

Is the CVT warranty the same for all Nissan's? I googled this and it says only 2003-2010 Nissan's...

As for the 7th generation models, only the 2009 and 2010 models have the extended manufacturers warranty of 10 years 120,000 miles. All other 7th gen models CVT's are covered under the 60,000 miles power train warranty.

I recommend getting the transmission fluid changed. Only reason not to do it is if you have records from a dealer that it has been done. Also take not of the condition of the fluid you are replacing. The dealer will sometimes say there is no need to change it so just tell them to do it. Nissan recommends changing it at 100k miles but the consensus here at Maxima.org is anywhere between 30k and 60k miles. Good luck! Get Blessed!

One of the most important things I'd do first would be to listen for the infamous main bearing knock. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but quite a few of us have knocking engines. Although at 99K I think you should be ok, do make sure anyway before purchasing the car.

09 Maxima 97k miles

I'm in the same boat, as I also just bought a 2009 with 97k miles,
I realize the Engine vibration in the cabin, I assume it's Engine Mounts may be pooched!
This used vehicle was serviced at the Dealer where I purchased for 11K,
I didn't realize the CVT warranty required proof of Tranny fluid change...I will ask them to see if they will change it as I did purchase just last week.
I returned the vehicle today to see if they can confirm the engine mounts need replaced.
wish me luck.
