running out of ideas here....

Several months later, I am still dealing with this relentless long cranking before it turns over. Sometimes it takes 2 attempts to start it. I've tried so many things, especially since occasionally 1320 pops up.

So, I've replaced:

Crankshaft Position Sensor at the crankshaft
Plugs, coils, etc
Ignition condenser
Fuel pressure regulator
Engine coolant temp sensor
Replaced battery and one of the terminals

The starter is new, only a few months old and straight from the factory. There are 2 other codes: catalytic converter o2 sensor and 446, and after a smoke test, it was determined that there's a leak up in the canister volume purge valve.

I just want my car to start like it used to.....I have enough to contend with, trying to get it to pass inspection by the end of the month and all.

Edit: this is a 97 SE 5spd.

Just stick through it. I've replaced about $2,500+ in repairs & I've only had the car for 7 months (new motor, 02 sensors, manifold leaks, MAF, you name it). Just get whatever you need fixed & it'll all work out for itself. Stay positive!

Add a couple of grounds from tranny bellhousing to battery.
Believe it or not, cleaning the TB and IACV fixed my long cranking issue when I bought one of my Maximas.

Something I don't know how to do (the list is short lol): adding grounds.

I clean the TB regularly. Never cleaned an iacv before. There was a brief 110 (iacv) code that came for a few day and disappeared, a few weeks ago.

Adding a ground couldn't be easier. For sake of testing, any gauge wire will do. Doesn't matter if the wire is solid or stranded. If this works, then get yourself some nice 8 or 16 gauge wire.

Loosen tranny bolt enough so that a wire can get under it. Insert wire, then re-tighten bolt. Repeat on other side of tranny. Connect both wires to negative terminal on battery.

Ptatohed fixed his long cranking by using 2 junk speaker wires he found laying in his garage. Car has been starting fine 8 years later....

Use any bolt you want, but personally I would a bolt close to the starter.

I did a test with the black cables on the jumpers. Started right up. Definitely a bad ground.
