Flashing airbag sign

Hey guys. I have an 09 Maxi SV and right in my dials, next to the fuel gauge, there's the AIRBAG light and it keeps flashing on and off. And the "PASS AIR BAG" sign is always on whether somebody is sitting in the seat or not.

I've read that it's just an error code and I went to Nissan and they want to charge me $100 for just a diagostnic...

I've tried the method to clear it where I power up the electronics 4 times and on the 5th time, start the car and it clears the error for a very short amount of time.

I'm wondering if there's something I can do to get rid of this.

Everyone keeps asking if the AIRBAG is gonna deploy if something were to happen and I keep reassuring thdm by saying "YES". But I, myself, don't know.

Its always on

It's always flashing

From the owners manual.

SUPPLEMENTAL AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT The supplemental air bag warning light, displaying in the instrument panel, monitors the circuits of the supplemental front-impact air bag, front seat-mounted side-impact supplemental airbag, roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental air bag and seat belt pretensioner systems. The monitored circuits include the Air bag Control Unit (ACU), crash zone sensor, satellite sensors, occupant classification system, front air bag modules, side air bag modules, curtain air bag modules, pretensioners and all related wiring.

When the ignition switch is placed in the ON or START position, the supplemental air bag warning light illuminates for about 7seconds and then turns off. This means the system is operational. If any of the following conditions occur, the front air bag, side air bag, curtain air bag and pretensioner systems need servicing: ● The supplemental air bag warning light remains on after approximately 7 seconds. ● The supplemental air bag warning light flashes intermittently. ● The supplemental airbag warning light does not come on at all. Under these conditions, the front air bag, side air bag, curtain air bag or pretensioner systems may not operate properly. They must be checked and repaired. Take your vehicle to the nearest NISSAN dealer.

You will need to take this to the dealer ship to get this fixed.

Thank you very much. They don't even listen to me about the issue. They DEMAND a diagnostic first...
So its gonna be a few hundred which is ridiculous...

They have to do a diagnostic to find the defective component. You cannot just shut off the code display as this is a safety issue. As it is now your the code is showing that a component in your air bag deployment system has failed.

I have had my passenger airbag light stay on even with a passenger in the seat. I does not happen all the time, but it does stay on occasionally. What is the fix for this?

That's what my car does. The question is answered above BUT a quick temporary fix is:
1. Shut Car off
2. Hit power button twice (without brake), till its "ON"
3. Airbag light in your dial area will be lit for around 6 seconds and AS SOON as it goes off HIT THE POWER BUTTON AGAIN till the power is off
(DONT ACTUALLY START THR CAR DURING THIS STEP)
4. Repeat step 3 FOUR times!
5. On the 5th time, start the car and it'll disappear (temporarily)

I have to ask, What good is the temporary fix? It did not fix anything. I hope you are not believing that if you trick the car to not show the light temporarily that the air bag system is A-OK.

The flashing is really distracting while driving, especially at night... So it takes that away

This may be silly but make sure you have nothing on top of the passenger seat. I had the same issue. I had my school bag on the passenger seat and the alert wouldn't stop blinking. After taking it to Nissan they explained that anything under 125 pounds like a baby or a dog can be killed by the airbag so the alert is a warning to move them to the backseat. Once I removed my backpack the light stopped flashing. Hope this helped!
