awful dealer buying experiences
awful dealer buying experiences
Hello! ever since the 7th gen came out I've loved the way it looked and well, finally it may be my time to own one, but i've noticed prices have held steady for the nissan maximas specially with the sv package so I've settled for one so far but i dont know if it's a good deal
its a 2014 Nissan Maxima S limited edition white Certified with only 3,500 miles. they're asking 21k, I think its a good looking car but it's missing the rearview camera that I wanted and the heated seats but the miles are great and it's certified. but I was wondering if the price is right? I wanted to offer 20,000.
I've done offers before for maxima and NOBODY wants to lower their prices, its ridiculous. once dealer in Atlantic City, NJ had a 2013 SV sport package with scratches all over and super dirty interior, fleet owned for 24,900 and on top they added some BS 500 dollar "gap" insurance fee that they wouldn't take off and a 1,000 prep fee... mind you the car wasn't certified. when I said no deal, they said that I was looking at the wrong car and I should look at the altima... needless to say, I walked out (that 500 gap insurance fee was "added to all cars and couldn't be taken off" I asked them if it was a mechanical piece installed in the car and they said no and when I asked why couldn't they take that fee off they couldnt respond.
another dealer in maryland had one with the sport package and 32k miles for 20k and I was super excited until I got a quote of their price and it showed a 1,500 "prep' fee.. so far PA dealers seem more honest but if you guys know a good dealer or good deals I'm willing to drive. thanks for your suggestions and if you have bad dealer experience post them too!

Price seems just a bit high considering great deals that were had by those that purchased new within the last few years. Cannot hurt to make your offer and be willing to walk if they say no. However, if it were me, I would hold out for version I wanted. If a backup camera/sport package are what you want, don't settle for less or you will always wish you had waited for the car you wanted.
Gap insurance through dealers is generally a joke, and is available through many insurance companies for hundreds less than dealers charge.
Good luck with your search.

to be honest I've done a search of about 100 miles from where I am (nj) and the prices for 2013/2014 with less than 30k miles are kind of out of my budget, I figured the S with limited edition looks good and still got that power engine with some nice options like the HID headlights.
Ask your insurance about GAP. Print out the info they tell you and take it to the next dealership that asks you to pay their b.s gap fee.
Stand firm on your budget or even go way below it, never let them get the upper hand. Remember, Stealerships want to make as much money as they can and they try to go above and beyond to get it. You'll get the car you want, it just takes time and patience.

So what is your budget? I just bought a CPO '14 SV with 22k on the odo, tech and premium packages for $24.4k, not too much more than what you were thinking of offering for that S. When I was car shopping I knew if I was going to buy a Maxima it had to be an SV. I would've regretted settling for an S. These cars are not rare, I'd hold out until you find exactly what you want.

so today I went to check that 2014 maxima s Limited edition, I drove 1.5 hours to see it, called them before and got an out the door price quote, everything seemed fine. I even called 1 hours before I got there to make sure everything was gonna be quick and easy...
And guess what? O'neal Nissan in PA just did a good ol bait and switch on me, I get there and they tell me that car is used but that they have many more, funny thing is that they are 2k or 3k more (yes 24k for a maxima s) they said they couldn't sale them to me at the price promised for the extremely similar car that I drove 1.5 hours for because "they didnt own them the same way" whatever that means. so far it seems nissan dealer's have a tendency of doing shady business for some reason, I got another quote from a dealer in MD and they included a car prep fee of 1,000.... this is EXTREMELY frustrating. I've expected the dealers to be crooks but seriously this is too much.

I remember when I was looking for a max I asked the guy for a specific color and he called me 2 days later saying that they just got one in my color. So I went over there it was not the color and he's like its the same thing. All dealers are the same. In the north east they are keeping their price/bs fees the same. Glad Tesla is disrupting their business model!
Be patient and keep working those dealers. That amount of money for a max with minimal features is criminal. I bought my 2012 SV premium loaded with 20k on it well over a year and a half ago for 21.5 +TTL Garden City Nissan. Here is the deal on non-lux cars like nissans, hondas and whatnot.. You go to a large high volume dealer. Their bread and butter is on new car sales. they are willing to take a short on trade in or selling a used car because their money is in new car sales volume. They aren't the type of dealerships that go get cars from the big auctions and hustle them on the used car lot for max profit because that isn't where they make $$.. Those type of dealerships just want to get rid of used cars that they have and there is where you can really make a good play for the deal you want. Trust me on this boss. good luck
well, I finally pulled the trigger. went to Exton Nissan in PA and got a great deal on a certified pre-owned.
2013 Nissan Maxima SV sport package
24,000 miles
red with black leather no navi
it was originally 23,900 but lowered to 21,400 and negotiated down to 21,000 got 500 rebate from nissan so ended up paying 20500 for it . financed it at 4.89% interest (way higher than I wanted it to be so I'm refinancing after the first month)
It's not the color I wanted but I got a great deal pics are coming soon

Good job Jomil! Your patience paid off. You were very wise to get one with the features you really wanted. As others have said, you would have always wished you had waited for the right car. You did that... Congratulations! BTW, I am always suspect of used cars with unbelievably low miles (3500 ...come on). So, someone bought it new and only kept it for 3500 miles... Had to be a reason they dumped it IMO.
