do I need a pre amp to power my factory Bose speakers in my 2001 maxima?

I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima with a Bose sound system... I installed an aftermart radio & the sound is not coming out the speakers but the radio is fully compatible... someone told me that my pre amp might be blown and I'm wondering if I replace the 2001 maxima Bose amp with a replica would my sound work.. another thing, when I look at the back of the amp all the wiring isn't wired right or plugged in.. can I just buy another preamplifier & have it installed properly and my sound work?

To make an non-Bose headunit work with your Bose speakers, you need three adapters: one for the speakers, one for the antenna, and one more (can't recall its type right now). Not installing them is the most likely reason for your problems.

The item that maxiiiboy can't recall the name to is called a line level or signal level adaptor. But not having one will not cause your problem.

What I suspect is your problem is that the speaker amplifier located in the trunk is not getting the signal to power on from the head unit (radio). The reason is most likely that the wire harness adapter is missing a jumper wire that is 100% necessary but almost never documented.

Aftermarket radios usually don't have a wire for this in the short, 6 inch harness that comes with it. So the installer person has to add a jumper wire from the antenna on wire that comes from the radio and connect it to the amplifier on wire in the Nissan harness.

The amplifier on wire is in the smaller Nissan connector, a green with white stripe wire.
The antenna on wire in MOST (but not all) aftermarket radio harnesses is a blue with white stripe wire.
