In my search for a replacement camshaft position sensor o-ring, I found a low cost sensor from eBay for $8.69 shipped. So I ordered it with the intention of just using the o-ring. The sensor on the 98 model is working fine. I also have two spare working sensors in my parts collection. I need o-rings not sensors. Ha!

So instead of tossing the eBay sensor and only using the o-ring, I will give it a try. Let's see how it goes.

i was gonna say, sounds sketchy but yea just a O ring gotcha.

 

The sensor arrived today. I tried to install it and it just would not fit flush with the TC body. It seems to have an extra shoulder area that prevented it from popping into the hole. So I removed the o-ring and moved it to the original unit. The original o-ring was brittle so it disintegrated when I tried to remove it.

The o-ring from the eBay part worked fine. It fits snug and and the sensor popped into place like it should.

Afterward, I tossed the new sensor into the garbage bin.

Leak problem solved for $8.69.

I might have taken the old part to a hardware store, then match up the old one ring with a new one.

My suggestion would be the Delphi SS10038. It's a reboxed OE part, but at a much lower price than the dealer. I paid $38 for mine

About the same time that I ordered the sensor, I received up a couple of Nissan o-rings - part number 22131-36u00 at roughly $4.91 each to keep on hand. So under $5 each. The shipping cost was almost $9 and change. I think on small items like o-rings I will be better off just picking them up from the local dealer.

I have a couple of working sensors that I've been keeping in reserve. If I need to use one I'll just put on a new o-ring and install it.

I've found SMP Intermotor brand parts to be re-boxed OEM also. I've found Federal Mogul supplies a lot of parts for BMW and Nissan. They usually list for a price that is similar to OEM though. The reason I buy Intermotor is because I can usually swing a deal using some parts store discount code, RockAuto, or eBay that brings the price down to 40% to 50% off.
